Alright, this confuses me.
I've seen some people with animated GIF icons here, and I wanted one too, so I'm uploading a gif....
Then it shows the first frame of the gif. So why can't I upload one? Help plz?

really small IIRC around 56kb or something(maybe it was a lot more but definitely no need for less)

I've just made some changes to the site, it should now support much larger files when using animated gifs - we used to limit this to control bandwidth usage. This usage is less of a problem now (although the site still generates in excess of 2TB/month!) so I've made some changes to support and resize animated GIFs for use on avatars.
I've just uploaded a 1MB file for mine, resized it comes down to 88kb which is pretty good. I may impose some limits so that page-load times aren't affected too badly... I think 256kb (for the resized image) is probably acceptable.
