You cannot categories Zelda games into any game genre simply because Zelda is ALL genres.

Well, except it's an action-adventure series, really.

Zelda is not funky. Show me any element of funk that you can find. Links or it didn't happen. >:3

sports game? it has fishing and archery.
shooter? link shoots beams from his master sword. also, arrows~
strategy game? you have to strategically kill monsters.
Platformer? Zelda II.
Dating sim? the ladies are always all over Link.
FPS? first-person archery view.
racing game? you have to race with Epona.
Beat-'em-up? get ambushed outside the castle in LttP.
Wrestling game? Sumo in TP.
Cosplay/dress-up game/roleplaying as other creatures? Bunny and wolf.
Simulator? It simulates combat during the training sessions in TP.
Internship program? You learn how to drive trains in ST.
Music/rhythm game? ocarina and spirit flute, also WindWaker
co-op adventure game? 4 swords.
Time-management trainer? Phantom Hourglass, Majora's Mask.
Cooking game? finding ingredients for the witch in OoT (so she can make you potions)
farm simulator? herding goat-things in TP
survival game? slash up some cuccos in OoT >:3
RPG? Zelda II.
action-adventure? all the other ones.
money-management training? Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland
on-rails shooter? try shooting crap from the stupid trains D:<
puzzle game? the dungeons are full of puzzles
MMO? that came up a while back, lol _{shut up it says MMO it counts D:}
boating sim: WindWaker, Phantom Hourglass

It's not even really an action game (Bayonetta and Ninja Gaiden are pure action games). It's not a sports game. It's not a SHUMP or space shooter. It's not an on-rails shooter. It's not a survival horror game. It's not a puzzle game (though the game has puzzles in it's dungeons).
