Topic: Super Mario Odyssey 2

So Super Mario Odyssey is my favorite game of all time. I enjoyed almost everything in the game and it is really a masterpiece! So I wonder IF you think a sequel will come out, when it will come out and what you want from it/what will probably be in it.

Also when do you think it will be announced?

@Tommy-and-Timmy The Wii had Mario Galaxy and Mario Galaxy 2. So, it's possible they'll do a sequel with Odyssey on the Switch. 3d Mario games usually release in the fall; Odyssey released October 27, 2017. If they're going to announce a sequel to Odyssey, I would expect that to happen in June, around when E3 normally took place. I expect the pandemic will probably cancel E3 for 2021.

Since Zelda Breath of the Wild sequel is due this spring, 2021, I'm going to make a guess that Nintendo will save a Mario Odyssey sequel for 2022 or later. Just a guess though.

I think it’s going to happen before 2024 which sort of gives me hope. Ideal would be next fall or the fall after.

I feel like botw 2 is more fitting for that. But if the console comes out in spring it could be fun if they released odyssey 2 in fall to kind of replicate the original releases.

I'd happily take whatever they've got, Odyssey is a masterpiece as OP said. It's widely viewed as a masterpiece yet at the same time it feels oddly underrated too.

I kinda thought and hoped there'd be an expansion pack DLC of 6 extra kingdoms or something at some point but I'm now thinking it's more likely to be the BOTW 2 and SMG 2 thing where they end up making a full sequel.

But maybe not. At the same time, Odyssey itself is a huge game and still feels like there's a lot to explore yet within that in replays or in my case I guess I'm going for 999 because I'm only 100 or so away now. Didn't think I'd ever 100% the game but it's just been so much fun to return to and now it's mostly just the boss gauntlet moons awaiting.

The sequel better featuring Luigi and other playable characters.

If Mario and Peach don't get married, then I don't want it.

It was bad enough that they teased us and teased us with all of the disingenuous wedding-themed marketing, only for Peach to pull the idiotic and clichéd "I-don't-need-no-man" crap that we see in virtually everything else nowadays. I can't think of any husband and wife duos in gaming, and I think making such a change in that dynamic for Mario and Peach could have lead to some great new ideas moving forward rather than recycling the damsel-in-distress trope ad infinitum.

I would definitely buy a follow up to this great game. Maybe it will be one of the last big games to be released on the Switch before it gets retired so the system can go out with a bang! 2022 or 2023?

Wouldn't be surprised if Odyssey 2 is a repeat of the Galaxy 1/2 situation where the sequel was originally going to be an expansion of sorts but became its own game. 3D World + Bowser's Fury could potentially mean it'll release later in the Switch's lifespan, though, or at best later in 2021.

I'd love a second game, the first one is so fun and there's so much more they can do. I'd love to see another level like Ruined Kingdom except a full level this time and not just a boss battle. Also maybe a haunted level.

Also we definitely need some new Capture abilities. I'd like to see:

-Cataquack
-Thwimp
-Monty Mole

@ToadBrigade That's not really a capture because you don't possess one, you just turn into one. We did play as a Boo before though, yes.

Hrrm. I seem to remember that in Odyssey, you ¨turned into¨ the thing you captured. Unless capturing and turning into are completely different things. Must´ve missed something.
Anyway, @ToadBrigade, it would be cool to become a Cataquack, but you can´t fling yourself in the air! It would be cool to incorporate real Thwomps into the game, like maybe a para-Thwomp that flew around, then if you press a button you slam to the ground? I dunno.

@AwesomEli Capturing is a possession, you inhabit the body of the enemy you capture. You don't turn into a separate version of the enemy, you take control of the specific enemy you capture.
