Just as the Wii is predicted to be shut down later this year, do you think Pokemon wifi will ever get shut down? It just seems to me all games are getting shut down one way or another, you'll still be able to play them but by taking away their online capabilities you're basically making them obsolete.
Pokemon is probably my favorite Nintendo game and really popular. Nobody is thinking about this but from experience, Wii only came out 5 or so years ago. I hope Pokemon (the games) last AT LEAST 20 more years, or until I "grow up".
Here is my theory. If Nintendo releases a new main series Pokemon game, that should guarantee at least another 5 years of online playing capabilities. However, Pokemon Diamond & Pearl being the oldest with wifi enabled... I'm afraid they might be shut down at any time without much notice. And if that happens, they might start clipping all the games one generation to another... Sad fate that I've seen happen to EVERY major series.
But yeah, I'm sure the services will be shut down eventually, but no, not anytime soon. It will probably happen when the successor to the 3DS comes around, which should be a very long time.
Yeah, that makes sense assuming no new games come out for the successor. I mean, Isn't Pokemon the more popular product of the Nintendo lineup (Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc...).
But I guess I'd just move on. It's not good to be loyal to companies (especially video game companies), at least I have other hobbies. But right now it doesn't seem so close, you're right.
I think the gen 4 servers will probably be shut down by generation 7, but fans will keep them running unofficially for years after that. Battle Revolution, I wouldn't care/be surprised if they shut them down the next time a Stadium or Colosseum-like console game came out, which is LONG overdue.
