So, I just watched the final episode again, and when it finishes we see the titan appearing in the hole where Annie tried to climb (the finger hole).
Then it dawned on me...when Mikasa cuts off Annies' fingers could they have somehow fused with the wall?; the same way when (titan) Eren ripped off the back of her neck she actually began fusing with him? And, if you watch it, you'll clearly see her fingers are still lodged in the wall when she's falling - BUT, they are gone at the end, with a TITAN in their place!
Since, when the Collossal Titan kicks the wall down, or when parts are exploded off we don't see any sign of a Titan within them.
What do you guys think?
EDIT: I haven't read the Manga, only watched the Anime. So if it's already explained in the Manga then I apologise.
I haven't read the manga but I've heard some words and come up with my own theories. I think I can safely say that there was no fusion.
Also, do you remember in the last episode where they said something like: We were fighting against the very thing that protected us.
Think about that for a second.
Oh okay, I rewatched it too now. What they said was: "However... much more time and sacrifice would still be required before mankind learned what it was that truly held them captive"
My speculation: (Possible spoiler because I think it's correct )
There are Titans inside all parts of the walls. And now Annie cracked part of the wall so sunlight would hit the Titan. Remember when Hanji experimented on the captured titans? They discovered that they need sunlight to be active.

I think you can figure the rest out by yourself.
Ok, BUT throughout the show (and even the Dub intro) the theme is that the Titans themselves are keeping the humans captive. They are the sole reason why the humans don't venture outside the walls/'cage'.
And, the quote above, I think is merely them speaking about how much further they are along in terms of knowing and besting their enemy. I mean, they now have a Titan on their side, and have captured a clued-up Shifter.
And, again, why didn't these titans show up when parts of the wall were destroyed?
Oh, btw, does the manga already reveal the answer?
The manga has continued this whole time. Plans are to finish the manga, then start on the anime again so this time, they won't need any pauses or fillers.
But yeah, the quote may be unrelated now that you mention it... but I still believe that the walls are made out of "Titanium".

I don't remember all the times the walls go destroyed, but I only remember the gates being destroyed. If that's the case, then that wouldn't make much of a difference since there was a whole there to begin with. There could also be that there's no titans around the gates.

Ok, you may be right about that. I'll have to check out which parts of the wall were actually destroyed.
By the way, if you haven't already, you should check out the extra episodes! They're referred to as an "OVA". So far there are three, but the 3rd on got released like yesterday or something, and has yet to be dubbed.

Thanks! Didn't know about the OVA either. Now on to abandon this thread! I'm afraid someone might spoil something
So, yesterday I started the manga...and got so into it, I ended up reading the whole freaking thing!
To cut to the chase, my mind has been blown about 4 times. XD
I won't post any spoilers, just say that at the end of the anime there was the one big cliffhanger. At the end of the manga there's about 10, lol!
EDIT: I don't mean the "end" of the manga, just the latest issue.
