Topic: How about a Steam Room?

I used to be a regular poster on trekbbs.com (I've lapsed recently) and they have a subforum called The Neutral Zone which was only viewable by changing a setting in your profile and then accepting a disclaimer. Basically it was a loosely moderated area devoted to discussing "sensitive" issues like religion, sex, politics, etc. People were free to flame each other (short of threats of physical violence) and post images of a non-X-rated nature.

It was an interesting place that helped keep the general area clean.

We've got a pretty active community here, so I was wondering if something like that made sense to The Powers That Be in lieu of locking and deleting threads that cross the line; instead they go there and likewise users who got riled up about stuff could have a place to Flame-On! without fear of getting banned.
