I'm loving it so far. I've never played Pengo before, so I can't say if it's anything like that, but it is similar to this PSN game I'm currently playing called Hamilton's Great Adventure.

Your goal is to rescue a certain amount of penguins while traversing over breakable ice (which means no backtracking, except when you're going over other types of differing surfaces) so that you can reach the exit of each level. This is the basic premise (and will get you a star for the level), but I prefer going for all of the penguins and breaking all of the ice (which nets you two and three stars respectively).

I've completed the first 12 levels so far and would definitely say it's worth $2. There are 78 levels in total, so it will probably last you a good while (especially if you plan on going for 3 stars on each level). The levels start off easy enough but there's a nice gradual rise in difficulty. The only negative so far is that the screen gap can be a bit disorienting, but it's a minor annoyance at most.

Highly recommended to fans of puzzle games, though at $2 it probably wouldn't hurt to give it a try even if you're not that big of a puzzle game fan. You may be surprised!

There's a story to this game? And when I say story I mean to not only a intro before the title screen apear like in Flipper.
Let's just say: this game have a story and you see after the title screen?

Nope, there's no real story in the game beyond one little paragraph you get in the help menu. It's a bit lame, but it is a $2 game where you rescue penguins so I'm not gonna knock too many points off for that.

The later stages are really starting to up the difficulty. They introduce new types of penguins and some of the level designs are pretty tricky (again, especially if you're going for three stars on each level). I thought I might breeze through this game, but so far I've spent a couple of hours playing it and I'm only about a third of the way through it.

Also of note is the rewind feature. It definitely helps you in solving the puzzles without resorting to restarting the whole stage. Another game this one reminds me of (and also shares the rewind feature with) is Catrap on the 3DS VC. If you liked that then this could be right up your alley as well.

Oh by the way, the story line is pretty compact, only about a patrol trying to get rid of a walrus that abducts cute and adorable penguins

Wow, thanks for all the info and response, guys! This game just got a 7/10 here at NintendoLife, a much higher score than I expected. I will probably be giving this game a shot later on today.

Just downloaded it and loving it! Yes, this is pretty similar to mostly all over 'penguin' type games we've seen in the past, including SEGA's original "Pengo" released back in the early 80's. Already on Level 10. This is a cheerful family friendly game. Yep, one of those. But it's great at what it does. 8/10 for me. Great value and great content for the price.

I have to say that I absolutly looooooove this little game, its so simple, but such a fun game which takes a good bit of thinking to solve the puzzles if you want to complete every thing in a puzzle level. Great Character Design also. I have to say that I like this almost as much as Pushmo. Hiiiiighly recomened for $2 If you like puzzle games like I do.
