Topic: Scrabble Classic impressions?

As a huge fan of Scrabble, I'm quite curious to see how the DSiWare version is. Does it have download play? WiFi play? And on top of all that, does it have a trade-off multiplayer mode where people can take turns in the same room? I always loved that feature in the mobile version.

Just a note: It looks like they have three Scrabble releases planned, and apparently they are each parts of the retail Scrabble game released for the DS in 2009. (Source: http://www.gamerbytes.com/2009/12/scrabble_comes_thrice_to_ds...

I was interested in this DSiWare release until I found out this info. If it's not the case, then please prove me and the article wrong! I'm also interested to find out whether this game has DS Download Play and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Ah, so it was as I had suspected. Regardless, Scrabble Classic is all that I really care about. It's what I grew up playing, so I could care less for the other modes.

From reading that article, I'm not dissuaded a bit from buying this release, as the other two aren't the core Scrabble game and are bizarre spin-offs that I have no interest in. Take Scrabble Slam for instance, which sounds like a recipe for disaster:

Slam is a card game equivelant of Scrabble where players must try to create as many 4 letter words as possible

@#!$ that.

@warioswoods @47drift Yep, I only care about Classic too. I thought it should be out there before people start buying it, because some people will end up disappointed if they have the retail version already.

I'm on the fence until I find out whether it has DS Download Play and WFC. If it has both, and the interface is good, then it's a definite buy.

I have Scrabble Slam (the actual card game) and it's kinda fun. Obviously not typical Scrabble but still kinda fun.

If I had to guess, this release has Download Play and Alternating Play using one DSi. But that's going off of the specs from the retail release so don't quote me on that.

Just to let u guys know... this is pretty much a no-frills version of Scrabble, and the main playing board doesn't show you which colors stand for what (triple word score, etc) just colored tiles, and i find that a little bit annoying, especially at an 800 point premium price point (here in NA.) I downloaded it today on a whim and I was expecting a bit more, but it'll do.

I have been playing this game for the majority of the day. I think its a lot of fun, but there are a few drawbacks to it. The first of which is that there is no download play. For you to play this game with anyone who is not a computer, they need to have their own DSi with Scrabble classic on it. Theres not even a pass around system as far as I have gotten. You can play up to against 3 computers with 6 levels of difficulty and it keeps track of longest and highest scoring words.

Hmm, so there's no multiplayer even on one system? That's a bummer. Also looking at the store, it doesn't have the WFC logo on its product page. My friends don't have DSi's (only Lites) and I can't play online, so I can't really see the 800 price point being justified. I guess I'll pass.

One glaring omission is that you have to "zoom in" to really see the Triple Word spaces, etc, or else you just see them as colored blocks from the default view on your playing field. This kind of bothers me... Also, there's no "auto-solve" like on my iphone version, where it'll give you the best word up to 4 times before running out, this version doesn't assist you at all. I do like how this version shows you the definition of words played, but you can't look up a word in it's dictionary, either, which is a huge drawback again. Also, no multiplayer (bummer) and the music gets really really ingratiating after awhile. Kinda sounds like dirty movie music, if you know what I mean... These are just a few of my latest impressions after playing for over an hour last night... I truly hope Hasbro comes out with a new version that does Scrabble justice. It's one of my favorite board games ever, but this version stinks.

I think there are a few people who this game is actually useful to. While im at college, I don't have any one to play Scrabble with, but when I can go home I can play scrabble the normal way with my friends and an actual board. I can practice finding words and learn new words from the computers in this version that I can use later. I treat this more like a warm up or practice at finding words to play in real scrabble games down the road.

You don't get auto-solve in real life, do you? It's a good thing that you can't cheat on this game.

Just let it happen.
