Super Mario Galaxy was a mind-blowing experience for me the first time I played it. I'll never forget the feeling of awe and wonder. Hands-down number one for me.
On the 2D side, it would be Super Mario Bros. 3. I had fallen out of gaming a few years after having progressed from Pong, to the Atari 2600 to the NES. I had played the original SMB, but when I tried 3 (skipped 2), I was blown away. How could a game be several times deeper and more detailed than the SMB I had played years earlier on the same console?
2D Mario: Super Mario World - Some of this is nostalgia, but IMO the fact that it has aged well and that I can go back and still have a ton of fun with the game speaks volumes.
3D Mario: Super Mario Galaxy - My second 3D Mario ( the first being 3D Land, if that counts). I love the setting, the Comet Observatory, the Lumas, Rosalina is introduced, the platforming is so tight....There's very little to NOT like about this game. The second game is excellent too, but I slightly prefer the first one over it. In today's day and age, I think Galaxy 2 would have been DLC.
(I'm actually in the middle of Super Mario Odyssey right now, so this may overthrow SMG by the time I'm finished depending on what happens. Stay tuned!)
Mario 64. I have enjoyed most of the 3d entries (never really liked the 2d versions although I have played all of them) but I keep going back to 64, so much of that game just takes me back to my childhood (I'm also trained by the camera, so it doesn't bother me the way it does other people). Plus it and my n64 was a fond prezzie.

I know it is pretty bland, but it is pure fun and is my favorite out of the New series.
Favorite 3D: Super Mario Galaxy
My favorite game of all time, it is a beautiful game with awesome levels and I never feel bored of it, no matter how many times I play it.
Favorite Spinoff: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Lots of fun. One of the best looking games on switch.
Favorite Overall: Hotel Mario
Beautiful graphics, amazing story, masterful cut scenes, and a more cinematic story than The Last of Us, this is a timeless masterpiece.
