Hi All -

I’ve never played a single AC game. I never thought it was something up my alley, but that was the ‘old’ me years ago not trying a lot of different games.

I’m looking for one last addition to my 3DS collection of 22 games. I was reading IGN’s 9.6 review, she said it’s addicting almost every day, yada yada. Then I read another review site, while still a great review, that guy said it gets dull and repetitive after less than 30min and it’s best to play in short bursts.

Just looking for anyone’s feedback on AC New 🍃. Should I grab it?

Thanks!

It's my favourite 3ds game.
It's just a very relaxing game, you have your town and you build it up a bit over time but mainly you are just fishing, catching bugs and talking to the villagers.
I guess it depends how interesting that sounds to you but it is a pretty unique game imo, no other game has been able to reproduce the animal crossing magic.

"Should I grab it?" is hard to judge since it will always boil down to "Depends on your preferences."

It's a life sim meaning that it doesn't have a story, is open-ended and slow-paced. AC in particular is very cute and offers several goals you can work towards (achievements, museum completion which will keep you busy for at least about one rl year, paying off all loans, catalogue completion, small daily and weekly "missions") + whatever you come up with (e. g. landscaping, doing some weird interior design, maybe making a themed town or making pathways). Since it uses a real time clock it is indeed best to set yourself goals and maybe dailies like talking to everyone + checking your shops and thus play it in bursts since it can get stale fast if you try to play it for several hours every day.

It is a relaxing, fun, and addicting game with a quirky sense of humour and a dash of mad libs dialogue (nothing like getting a letter saying an item reminded your neighbour of you - and being sent a trash can - or having an elephant neighbour who's trying to sell their trunk). I found that it's surprisingly entertaining in multiplayer. For what it's worth a friend of mine always had zero interest in life sims but decided to go for this game to join multiplayer sessions in our circle and has a blast so far.

So... should you grab it? If you don't mind life sims (or would like to give them a try) and slow, sandbox-y games then yes, ACNL would be a quality pick. If it's not your cup of tea you can say you gave it a try at least; since it's a Selects title it isn't sold at full price anymore either.

Currently playing: ACNL, Pokémon Pearl, Pokémon Art Academy, Minecraft, Mario Tennis Aces
Sidegames: Super Kirby Clash, Overcooked 2, Kirby's Dream Land 3

Looking forward to: Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokémon Swish
Hyped for: ACNH

Same as me at the first time i was skeptical if i could enjoy ACNL after my disappointment from City Folk.
But, after played for 1 - 2 weeks, i started to like ACNL and i was crazy in love with ACNL after i knew some useful tricks.

Here are some tips to enjoy ACNL:
1. Don't think about some quick actions or like games you need some quick decisions. ACNL is more like Art game rather than Physical Education games.
2. Be curious what will happen tomorrow.
3. Get happy by fanciness.
4. Think to getting more money by creative ways. Even if you cannot paid off quickly, just enjoy the process you get the money at the same time you have quality time with your villagers.
5. You can decide to ask your villagers to stay or move out if you don't like them.
6. Think about house design and you have some targets to get your desire furnitures.
7. Watch ACNL town tour videos from Youtube to enrich the knowledge about decorating your town.
8. If you have 2 3DS and 2 copies of the game, you can exchange the items each other and it will make the ACNL gameplay more interesting.
9. Think ACNL = The Sims + Story of Seasons without planting crops
10. Browse from internet to find your best QR code designs since you can create your own pattern to be wore by yourself or other peoples or can be applied on the floor / wall.

Happy Playing ! 😀
