Topic: 3DS won't connect to my internet

Ok, so I got my 3DS XL Monday and I am loving it. I've wanted one since they came out and I decided to save up and my tax return helped me pick it up. Also with perfect timing I was able to pick it up around the time the Pokemon X and Y offer was put out. So when I got it Monday, of course, I tried to connect to my wi-fi and update it and stuff. I won't even connect to my router , let alone my internet, so I was wondering if anyone could help me. I went to my local library and their wi-fi I couldn't pick up for some reason and then I went to McDonalds and that worked and I have registered everything and updated it and I chose Pokemon Y, but I don't want to spend all my time there when I want to download stuff, I'm a busy person. My DS fat wouldn't connect to my wi-fi either. I heard people having some of the same issues and it could be DNS erros or something but I don't quite understand how that stuff works so if someone could help me get it working I would be the happiest person in the world. Thanks.

I forgot to mention that all our computers and my Ps3 connect and run just fine, if that means anything.

Since your PS3 is working then I don't think it is Wireless N that is part of the problem. Nintendo 3DS only support up to G standard. By any chances do you have MAC filtering on?

Update your router and keep the settings at default. If your router is old, buy a new one or ask your ISP if you are eligible for an upgrade.

I'm Not sure what MAC filtering is.

You can just connect your 3DSXL through your computer via hotspot. Less hassle.

You could try setting it up manually (instead of having it auto connect).

Instead of me typing out some long and confusing post on how to do it, this guy sums it up pretty nicely:

Three things though:

1. The volume when he is filming his 3DS is normal, but when he films his computer, the volume gets lower. When he goes back to the 3DS, it gets loud again. Just beware!

2. You don't have to do what he says as far as browsing to your default gateway to get an IP address for the 3DS. All you really have to do is take whatever the IP address is of the device you're connected to and add seven to the last number. (example: If your computer's IP address is 192.168.1.5, make the 3DS 192.168.1.12. If your PC is 192.168.10.2, then it would be 192.168.10.9 etc.). If your subnet mask is anything other than 255.255.255.0, that could be different. On the side, you might want to browse there anyway if you haven't set a password to manage it.

3. Don't listen to all the people in the youtube comments saying that "I can't connect because I have a WPA key and not WEP". WPA & WPA2 are better encryption methods than WEP and work fine with the 3DS. DS games are the only exception, so you can't play online with them if this is the case.

Let us know if this helps.

If all else fails, this might be the next step...though a new router would probably be WPA2.

Can you see your wireless network? If not then maybe you should enter manual just like DanMan82 said. Yea I think SCAR392 is right about you not running MAC flittering since it is not common.

Sorry for the late reply guys, I finally got Poke'mon Y downloaded and I am loving it. I am currently using my pc as a hotspot, but I am going to attempt to enter my Wi-Fi manually. As to your question Super_Gravy, no I can not see my wireless network at all.

Yes!! I got it to see my Wi-Fi and finally connect! I was following the video and I guess when I attempted to enter it manually, even though it failed, it recognized my internet and I just connected it. Thank you all very much I really appreciate it.

I think you have an closed wireless network running which is why DanMan82 ask you if you have try putting in manually. Can your other new devices see your network? Noticed I used the word "new".

And I glad you got your 3DS can connected.

My most recent devices were my PS3 in September and my laptop in November I think. They had no issues, and we got our latest router early-mid last year.

Huh? I guess your Wii U couldn't see your wireless network for some reasons.

Edit: I meant 3DS. XD

As long as it's working, that's fine, but if you got your router last year, you shouldn't be having problems, as long as it's updated, that is.
