Re: New Switch Emulator Devs Are Jumping Through Hoops To Avoid A Nintendo Takedown

@Lofoten while I don't speak for everyone, when I was more active on my Xbox 360, I would go through a ton of demos that kept me busy. Fast forward to 2025, I dont own a switch & have no idea if there exists an extensive demo ecosystem on the Switch.

All I know is I loved playing the first 30 min of Tomb Raider on a ps3 emulator & proceeded to buy the game off Steam yesterday. In fact, I have price watches on all the games Ive discovered on Sony, SEGA, Nintendo systems that have PC equivalents.

Its a no brainer to buy titles at low cost & support developers. I also get peace of mind the game isn't going to crash & that I will experience the game exactly the way the developers intended without any weird graphical glitches. first impressions are everything in keeping you engaged with the story!

unfortunately many Nintendo games on the Switch don't get ported to PC so it's just an argument for if we had a more open gaming ecosystem, I think developers would discover they would make more money on sheer volume.

Gone are the days where I could just go to my local video store, browse all the cartridges on the shelves & rent the game for a few days to evaluate whether it's worth buying!

again, I speak for myself and my 2 cents!

@Pat_trick I can't help but wonder what kind of system could be used so ppl have access to games within their means. I've lived in a 3rd world country & I've experienced the vast chasm between those who lived as locals (DVD piracy was rampant), the middle class (have the means to rent videos), the upper class who doesn't wince at the luxury tax of having the latest gaming console or MacBook.

I can only imagine "region locking" was invented to help solve this problem but I admittedly never saw a region lock to a 3rd world country to enable said game to be sold for maybe 1/4 or 1/5 the price as it would have been too hard to enforce.

I can't help but wonder what would have to be in place so there no longer is an incentive to "game" the system?

y'all got me thinking 🤔 lol
