Re: Off-TV Play Coming to 1001 Spikes on Wii U

NImH, my intention isn't to irritate other Nintendo fans. What you may not know about me is that I'm probably a bigger Nintendo fan than you are and because of that I will never stop being one if its harshest critics.

However, in supporting the 3DS and now Wii U, it's part of my job to listen to feedback from other fans who happen to buy and play my games. Sorry to hear that my personal opinions have turned you off to 1001 Spikes, but thanks for the support with Cave Story, NightSky and VVVVVV.

Hey Tim, thanks for spreading the news! My name is spelled Tyron(e) Rodri(g)uez!
For anyone who mentioned it, the game is getting entirely new localization from a super-secret team who specializes in making JRPG dialog awesome.

Chrono, There are six bugs total, between the eShop versions of Cave Story, NightSky, VVVVVV and Ikachan I can remember. You're welcome to educate me on anything I may have missed.

@C-Olimar, European region is getting NightSky this month. Cave Story will follow.

Canis, I think that joke is a bit old. You might try to find a new one.
In 13 months we released: Cave Story eShop, NightSky eShop, VVVVVV eShop and Ikachan eShop. I don't know many other developers or publishers who have been as prolific during that time on eShop.

Re: Review: Ikachan (3DS eShop)

Thanks for the review. However, I'm not sure if you're familiar with the origin or too familiar with the original Ikachan. The 3DS and PC version are the same game, yes, but there are a number of improvements on the eShop version. In bullet points I've listed most of the changes below, all of which you HAVEN'T MENTIONED in your review:

  • 16:9 widescreen support (original was 4:3)
  • 3D stereo
  • All-new background art
  • Some new character art
  • Actual title screen and ending sequences
  • Enlarged map with new areas, quest and enemies
  • Revised audio for 3DS

Regarding the length of the game. I've obviously played Ikachan an inordinate amount during development. We've also had a significant number external players go through the game. The average first-time for most players, including really good gamers is about 2-3 hours. If you were able to beat the game in an hour your first time through, that seems very uncharacteristic as the world is fairly large. We priced it at $5 with the assumption that players could get 2-3 hours their first time through the game. That's about $1.50-$2.50 per hour. I, personally, don't mind paying $15 for something like Journey, which is also only a two hour experience.

Take this all as my own opinion, I can't feel that you might be misrepresenting the game as it sounds like a review of the PC version and not 3DS version. I also can't help put to feel you're putting a rating based on price ($5) and not the game's own merit. Would you have scored it higher if it was .99? I'd say probably, yes.

Re: Cave Story Update Now Available

vakama94, It's not really going slow. It's loading the remixed music. To make sure we got the audio just right, we went with an MP3-type audio format instead of MIDI. If you switch to the original audio, you'll notice there's literally no loading between areas.
