I don't see why Tetris should be on this list. On a top 10 list, sure, but not on a must play list. I understand the significance of that game for the game boy and I played it a ton as a kid, however, that game is already available on what seems like virtually every electronic device ever made and everybody's already played at least one version of it before. There's really no reason why someone must play the game boy version over just about any other version. Surely, there's a more unique game that should fill that spot.
It's good to see Wind Waker being near the top of the list. I bet it would be near the bottom if this poll was taken 10 years ago. I've always thought it was one of the best Zeldas but I remember so many people constantly bashing it and saying how terrible it was when it first came out.
The programmer side of me says:
Why have, what seems to be, an arbitrary limit of only 300 or a limit at all? Hard-coded limits tend to suck because no matter how big you make them, you tend to always reach them a lot sooner then you expected.
The gamer side of me says:
Holy crap! Some people are actually reaching this limit, on a single gaming system no less? Are they literally buying every single game that's released? How many do they play let alone finish? I don't think I've purchased 300 games over the course of my entire life for all the consoles I've owned combined and that's counting all the crap I used to buy during Steam sales (most of which I've hardly ever played). I certainly understand collectors buying physical copies just for collecting purposes but these are digital purchases.
I'm amazed at how many 3DSs some people here have!
Absolutely not. As a tablet, the Gamepad sucks. Nintendo has a lot to learn from Apple. There's a lot they would need to improve upon, both hardware and software, before it can be marketed as a tablet killer.
Compared to an iPad, the Gamepad feels like something that was designed 10 years ago. It's like comparing a Palm Treo to a smartphone of today. Including a stylus alone makes the Gamepad feel ancient. Aside from the Gamepad/DS, the last time I had to use a stylus on a touchscreen was back when I had my Palm Treo.
The Gampad, in its current form, is little more than a game controller.
It was a really tough call to make. I voted for Ocarina of Time and I'm not sure I made the right choice for me. I based it mainly on which Zelda game I'd first choose to replay again. It was a tough call between that one, Majora's Mask and Wind Waker HD. While I really like A Link to the Past, I just can't rate it as high as some of the other ones.
Zelda II? Really? Someone picked that as the best? I actually like that game but there's no way it would be anywhere near the top.
Twilight Princess should have been split out into separate entries. Either lump all the remakes together or don't. The different control schemes is enough to warrant separate entries. I'm curious how they would have ranked against each other. I know I certainly rank the Gamecube version much higher. I'm not a fan of motion controls, especially terrible ones. TP's motion controls almost completely ruin the game for me. Same with SS although it's certainly not as bad as TP. If SS had traditional controls, I'd be much more tempted to put it near the top of my list although the really long, boring "intro" is enough to keep it out of the top spot.
Why would someone choose the Gamecube version of Wind Waker over Wind Waker HD? Nostalgia? I really liked playing the original when it came out but if I had to replay one of them I'd pick the HD version every time.
