I've never seen it before, but of note would be that the rear cover is almost identical to the version that released in the UK, with the exception of the Nintendo Seal of Quality being missing, and, perhaps more interestingly the EDTV/HDTV support advertised at the top right. From Googling, I can see that the Nintendo Selects re-release in the UK did show EDTV/HDTV support, and some of the other European releases do also, but the original UK print run definitely didn't. What that means in context, I don't know.
"Technically called 'Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition', this game arrived as an enhanced version of Pokémon Red and Green..."
Technically, the game that was an enhanced version of Red and Green was called "Pocket Monster: Pikachu" (ポケットモンスターピカチュウ). Although, again, technically, it was an enhanced version of Pocket Monster Ao(Blue), which was the original "enhanced version" in Japan. The version released in the west that was an enhanced version of Pokémon Red and Blue was called "Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition". Or was it? The front of the box reads as though the title was "Pokémon Special Pikachu Edition: Yellow Version", and elsewhere on the box, it'd have you believe that "Pokémon: Special Pikachu Edition" was the full name.
A bit nitpicky, perhaps, when admittedly there's no unanimously agreed upon name for this game, but notably the Japanese release (The anniversary of which the article is celebrating) doesn't mention the colour "Yellow" anywhere.
@LUIGITORNADO I'm well aware of the impact that Dragon Ball has had on Japanese (and international) media, and am a huge fan of the series myself, but my issue isn't with the inclusion of Goku, it's the inclusion of any non-video game character. It goes against the spirit of the series.
Fundamentally, the Super Smash Bros has always been a celebration of video games - obviously Goku's been in a whole heap of them, but he isn't a "Video Game Character". If Goku's in, why not Mickey Mouse? Bugs Bunny?
