For the low price. I couldn't help getting this for Bad Dudes, Street Hoop (a very under-rated arcade basketball game), Crude Busters, and Caveman Ninja. Bad Dudes is so freaking classic. If you look up the word classic in the dictionary, it says: See Bad Dudes vs Dragonninja by Data East!
VC arcade also I hope! I'd buy street slam in a second. It's a very good basketball game. When is Taito going to start giving us some classics. Final Blow please!
Almost as good as Double Dragon, just missing the gritty tone of the DD games. The gameplay and use of dialogue make it a worthwile addition for a beat'em up collection though.
I bought this game thinking i'd get a bit of nostalgia out of it and little more. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that the gameplay, sound, graphics, and challenge all hold up very well for such and old game. WELL worth 800 wii points!
Please give us the rest of the double dragons. I'd download DDII and III the minute they're available. All three of these games are must-haves for any serious nintendo collection.
good review. I agree with the score. I'm a fan of SNK games and just noticed that SamShoII is available! Might have to grab this. The one I'm most exited about it FF special though!
Wow, it's free. Awesome. I liked Punch out wii. But I think for the next punch out game, I would love to see more story, interactive training, and more story...did I mention more story? I'm a huge boxing fan...Nintendo made the best boxing game of all time with punch out in the 80's but lately EA sports is the undesputed champion in this category. Fight Night Round 4 is the quintessential boxing game. Even though no one could top EA's realism...Nintendo still needs to do more in my opinion to get a shot at EA's title. If they combined the story aspect of Victorious Boxers, the tight gameplay and great characters of Punch out...and throw in a deep training system, and we may just have a contender on our hands.
First of all... Good list! I totally agree on most of them, especially Karnov...here's the rest of my list:
Final Blow Bad Dudes vs. Dragon-ninja Punch Out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles P.O.W. 3 Count Bout Street Hoop Robocop Superman Wrestlefest Double Dragon (I, II and III) Pit Fighter Mortal Kombat N.A.R.C. NBA Jam Virtua FIghter
I could care less what some hoarder gets for his mint condition copy of some old game that he kept because it would be "worth something". I do think people who collect original games will still want to collect them. As for me I'm not into the whole collecting thing if you couldn't tell. What i am into is being able to conveniently (and legally) enjoy retro games at a fair price. Something that wasn't really possible a few years ago. So I'm thrilled and very grateful for the VC market. Finally the retro gaming market has caught up with the rest of the world. For instance, if you wanted to watch a really old movie or buy a really old music album, all you have to do is go to the store and buy it for a reasonable price. Or better yet, buy it from itunes or something like that. You don't have to actually find the "originally packaged" record or vhs from some collector in another part of the world who will sell it to you for 300 dollars. Well, that's how it was with games (either that or illegally emulate the roms...which i'm against), but thankfully not anymore. The collectors can still collect, but for us regular gamers...long live the vc.
I know a lot of people who think this is the best of the first 3 mario's. I can't pick a favorite. The first one is great because it's classic. The second is great because it's the most unique, and the third is just all-around amazing! Got this one because my wife wanted it. It's a great game for it's time but to me it hasn't aged as well as 1 or 3. Still awesome though.
I agree with the score. I'm not an rpg fan usually but i bought this when it first came out and I loved it. It's the only rpg i've ever liked enough to finish. This is up there in my top ten of all time list.
I bought this and loved it when it first came out. Probably the only rpg that i ever finished because I liked it enough to stick with it. I'm not usually an rpg fan, so maybe that's why i liked the easy access style of this one. In my opinion this is a VERY good game.
Yes. Great game. Difficult, but the controls are fast and tight, which keeps you coming back for more. I plan on getting II and III but not until I finally beat this one!
Only 2 selctable characters...So what!!! This game is awesome. Who cares how many charcters it has? It has personality, great graphics (the zoom effect was way ahead of it's time), great story, great sound. Ok the controls and difficulty are frustrating but so what. I love this game! Get SNK arcade classics disc instead of downloading though...16 great games/better value and infinite continues!
I thought this review was very good. One of my favorite games of all time. I actually love the fact that there are only 3 selectable characters. Less is more. Less options and more quality that is.
I give it a 7. Not as good as double dragon but still not without it's charm. The control is pretty fast and responsive, but of course getting punches off fast enough to fight off a bunch of foes at once is pretty much impossible. Welcome to the nintendo era. I had to buy this one though for pure nostalgia.
This is a great title. It's one of the most classic games of the 80's. If you're playing this game for the first time you probably wont get past level 3. I still haven't beaten the game yet. The challenge is fairly high as to be expected from a game from it's era. My friend who is VERY good at video games played it and got to about midway through stage 3 and died. Which is about where most first timers will make it (after making it past the 2 Abobos i always get clobered by those falling rocks in the cavern!!! I hate those things). The farthest i've gotten is level 4 right before the final boss. But I'm pretty sure I could beat it with a few more tries. Anyway, I'm just saying that this game isn't a cakewalk unless you were a hardcore nes player back in the day that spent lots of time mastering it. Great title though. Great music, characters, and overall feel! Buy it!
Got it. Finally! And yes. It's a nine or ten in my book. The nes version is also great. But this version has better graphics and of course its a true arcade game. To answer your question Vermithrax...they are completely different games, yes...it's definitely worth getting both if you are a fan of old school beat 'em ups like this. This version's got better graphics, animation, character art, and stage art. More moves. Vertical & horizontal side scrolling. BTW...the review lists the high challenge as one of the negative things about this game. I don't see how challenge is a factor in a game with unlimited continues (and adjustable life gauge). This game isn't difficult IMO.
A very good port of SF. I allways liked the basic Champion Ed. better than all the other turbo and super editions so this was perfect for me. Aslo the bonus stages are both there (car and barrels) and the graphics sound, and gameplay are all solid (for 1993). The challenge level seems just right also, I got to Vega (japanese name...last boss) using only about 2 continues, then it took me like 5 more continues to beat the game. Great old school port of SFIICE!

Re: Review: Ai Chō Aniki (Virtual Console / TurboGrafx-16)
Looks like it'll be well worth a 600 point download.

6 is way too low. I'd say 8 or 9. This arcade classic is a true gem. I'm getting it as soon as i get some spending money!
