@JeanPaul You can jump straight in with this one. In terms of story the mainline games are like Persona - the entries share themes and mechanics but the stories are standalone.
Persona is originally an SMT spinoff and although the recent games dropped the SMT name there are still many elements that cross over. Persona 5 is actually more similar to SMT than 3 and 4 because you negotiate with enemies to recruit them (as personas in P5 and as party members in SMT).
The roster of demons (shadows and personas in PS) and their designs are very similar as is the magic naming system (agi, bufu, zio, etc), as well as combat based on targetting weakness. So there'll be plenty you're familiar with from Persona.
@Franklin Maybe I'm being wooshed here, but "the Professor and I" would not be grammatically correct in this context. The speaker is one the objects of the sentence, rather than the subject.
