@Thumbsofsteel It’s a bit of what I mentioned above. mgs1 was designed around the limitations of the gameplay, so everything you face (camera, enemy soldiers, etc) is designed around that “system”.

When the game was remade using the mgs2 engine, the game rules were never redesigned to accommodate for that, so it made everything really easy.

My favorite example is the helipad at the beginning of the game and you’re going for no kill— on mgs1 you have to sneak past lights, cameras and soldiers, and at this point you have nothing on hand, so you really have to be careful. On twin snakes they added a few lockers around that particular area, so it’s fairly easy to choke the soldiers and put them in the lockers… and then the area is clean! Most of the resto of the game is just as easy to beat, I think I finished in my first play through without breaking a sweat.

So, is it better? Well, it’s still a lot of fun, I just find the original game a better overall experience.

Also just have to comment on the ranking — twin snakes ranking better than the original is absolutely hilarious— it’s just mgs 1 with mgs 2 graphics and controls.

The problem with that “upgrade “ is that mgs was not designed for the improvements first person view/controls brought, so it kinda breaks the game! All the stuff that was challenging in mgs was really easy to circumvent with the new gameplay options. It’s more of a remake than a true upgrade, like someone else’s telling of the same story. I don’t know that they really compare apples to apples, but I do think that overall, the original game is a superior game.

Created an account just to ask — I already own most versions of these games (the original ps1 and ps2, as well as the first hd collection on ps3 and vita). I got hd released for the vita so I could play these games in the go, but despite of the gorgeous screen, the games don’t control very well — using the front screen to make up for the lack of R2/L2 buttons was a really terrible compromise.

Anyone here owns both the vita and switch versions? Are the controls in the switch edition better than the vita hd?
