Man, I'm sorry to say this is a terrible review. Despite starting as a Wonder Boy rip-off the series has developed its own identity after the second installment where you could ride dinossaurs that change the gameplay dramatically. The 3rd game even builds upon that with secret routes, more dinos and tighter controls.
What about this one? No dinos, no secret routes--even if it was released AFTER those NES upgrades.
If you want the best gameplay in the series, go for Adventure Island III in the NES (or it's Game Boy version available at eShop, called Adventure Island II there); if you want the best looks, go for Super Adventure Island (SNES, available as a Wii VC title). Even the poor levels design and all-the-same bosses play AGAINST this version.
I wish I could ask the guy my money back, since I was on the fence on this or "Adventure Island: The Beginning"...
Terrific guy, I can relate to him in pretty much everything retro-gaming-wise. Now in my 30s I'm starting to dig my old NES favorites from auctions as well since I sold my Atari 2600 for a NES and that NES for a SNES...
"The game can be conquered with perseverance". No, it can't. -.- The last section/boss is un-beat-a-ble. lol It almost made me cry when it was released--actually it still does that to me.
I own it for PC for some time now and I really love it... as I would love to get this makeup, but its price tag is a bit too steep here IMO. -.- @JayArr: So true... -.-

Re: Review: 3D Classics: Kirby's Adventure (3DSWare)
Very informative review. I would love to get this and replay such a classic but I just can't stand Nintendo's lazy approach to its re-releases...
