I am excited for Team Cherry to release this game. The dev timeline isn't too out of the ordinary for such an indie studio.
I think the community's reaction is a sign of the original game's quality and mainstream appeal.
Before HK, Metroidvanias were usually nondescript indies. Now we have AAA Metroidvanias. HK doesn't have the best upgrades, coolest level design, best story, or best combat out of all metroidvanias, but it's the first indie game with enough polish to stand alongside the other genre definers.
The real question is perhaps not the radio silence, but why it was announced so early, but there are some good potential reasons to do so, like funding and recruitment.
