Steam Deck supports "VRR" as Freesync (VESA Adaptive Sync) and HDMI Freesync. HDMI Forum VRR is not supported and is not compatible with Freesync (DP and HDMI)
The HDMI Freesync function ist very similar to regular Freesync and can be forwarded from USB-C DP to HDMI without conversion. This is not the case for HDMI Forum VRR.
Nvidia only supports Vesa Adaptive Sync over DP (as Gsync Compatible) and HDMI Forum VRR (as Gsync Compatible via HDMI).
So at best the Switch 2 will only support Freesync TV/Monitors (via HDMI) which will never happen with an Nvidia Chip inside because of marketing.
PS: And this is not comparable with the PS5. The PS5 uses HDMI VRR and has a native HDMI Port without any VRR conversion.

Re: Switch 2 Dock Supports VRR After All, But It Doesn't Actually Work With Console
Unfortunately the "VRR" term mixing starts again.
