Re: Switch eShop Maintenance Scheduled For This Evening, Nintendo Online Service Ready To Go

About 50 years ago my dad vowed to never buy another brand new car. He wanted to "stick it to the man". He believed people like him would bring down the auto industry by not buying cars. I grew up watching my dad work on his old cars. He's 75 now and still owns old cars and works on them. He could buy a new car, but he still won't do it. He actually feels like his sacrifice has made a difference. All he's done is lost time working on cars. It made no difference. All he managed to do is deprive himself of reliable transportation and time doing better things. So I've seen both sides of these things. I will not be an activist for the things in life that are an option. If I can make my life better or add enjoyment to it for a few bucks I'm going to do it. so when I see I can have something I'll enjoy for $1.67 a month, I'm going to pay it with no hesitation whatsoever. This is why I don't have a problem with this issue. I'm not a sheep, I'm not a fanboy. I'm just paying $20 a year for something that I want, so I'm going to pay it. Simple as that.

@Vee_Flames I think healthcare should be free. Water should be free, child care should be free for working parents. We could go on and on about things that SHOULD be free that aren't. In fact a large chunk of a working adults paycheck is taken from them so that other who could work but choose not to can have things for free. So if we're going to talk about what's fair and who's getting screwed, my mind doesn't go to having to pay $1.67 a month to play games online. I take that hit too.

@Vee_Flames Apparently that is how paying for games works. Since every console has been charging for games and online service for years. I'd say that's exactly how it works. It's just not how you want it to work. And I would love that too. But we aren't going to get that. They provide us something we enjoy. It costs money. So we have a choice. Enjoy it, or don't. It's not complicated at all. A few thousand people tweeting hashtags isn't going to change it. For every 100 protesters there are a million subscribers. If crying hasn't changed the outcome of the 2016 election, it certainly isn't going to change this.

@Vee_Flames Is it Absurd that you buy a TV and still have to pay for cable, Netflix, etc. Or that you buy a car and still have to pay for XM/Sirius? Or that you buy a house and still have to pay for upgrades down the road. Buying a game gives you that game. It doesn't include the OPTIONAL online service to play online with others and all the additional services that come with it. Online is an add on service, it's not part of the base game.

@AlphaElite Again, you're off base. They have been letting you use a service that costs them to run for free for over a year. And they are adding services you didn't already have. Unless I've been missing the NES games library and cloud storage all this time. Bottom line is, it's your choice. For me $20 a year is a steal for what they're offering and I'm grateful they took the hit to give it to me free for a year. So I will gladly pay $1.67 a month for the service. You also have the choice to take a pass.

Re: Switch eShop Maintenance Scheduled For This Evening, Nintendo Online Service Ready To Go

@AlphaElite That's not even close to a good analogy. Walking is not the same as being given a form of entertainment for free, then asking you to make the choice to pay to have an extra form of entertainment. What Nintendo is doing is letting you go to the movies for free for a year then you have to pay $20 a year to keep going as often as you like. Gaming online is not a human right. They provide a service for your enjoyment. Choose to pay and have it, or don't pay and not have it. It's completely up to you.

@MrBlacky Family plan is 34.99 for 8 accounts, so that would be $4.38 a year if they all split the cost. But my understanding is that it's not about the money. My dad does that kind of thing. He deprives himself of things to be an activist. In the end it makes not one bit of difference. The system trudges on without them and they lose the enjoyment they could have. I'm not trying to be harsh, I'm just being honest. This is a great time to be alive in many ways. Gaming being one of them. I'm not going to miss out on that unless I just can't do it. I think I can swing $1.67 a month.

@NEStalgia So what you're saying to me is that if EA games are important to me, most likely I already have an xbox to begin with so I wouldn't need to sell a ps4 to get one? That certainly makes sense because I'm mostly a sports gamer. Throw in some shooters and racers. I had a ps4 but do not currently. The only reason I had a ps4 was for MLB The Show, which I feel has become stale, so I traded it for an X.
