Re: 'Switch 2' Launching This Year With 8-Inch LCD Screen, According To New Analyst Rumour

TheGreyandTheRed

@larryisaman no I suppose it didn't but it did make it obsolete, once you compared the two. The lack of an OLED screen may well be a deal breaker for me especially when you consider the new console will take approx 18 months for enough games to be released to utilise the extra power (the ps5 and Xbox are really only just starting to meet their potential)

It would be a mis step in my opinion. For the rumoured £400 i'd expect a far more powerful system, an OLED screen and an updated and more ergonomic design.

I'd be surprised if this is true. Reverting back to an LCD display (albeit larger) will definitely have an effect on sales, so many current owners will wait for an OLED model.

Also making the screen larger will also raise new issues as the console will likely be heavier and even more unwieldy to use than the existing model, which imo is something that seriously needs addressing.

The new switch needs to be an upgrade on the original in every possible metric or we will end up with an other Wii u situation. Yes, It needs to be more powerful, but it also needs to be way more ergonomically designed as the current switch cripples your hands while playing undocked for any significant period of time.

Re: Talking Point: Should Link Have Voice Acting In The Next Zelda Game?

TheGreyandTheRed

I think it will definitely happen at some point and probably sooner rather than later. Zelda is far too much of a valuable IP for it not to be adapted to other forms of media. Which given the commercial successes of the Mario movie and the Last of us HBO series makes it even more likely this will happen at some point.

The lore and history of The Legend of Zelda is one of the richest in all of gaming, yet ironically it's one of the least explored or explained. It mostly consists of theory and "head canon" with only a few major plot points and details fully fleshed out. Which in turn makes it a perfect canvas for a movie or TV series writer to play with.

I can't imagine Nintendo will be a ble to resist the financial temptation for much longer. I could easily see a live action or modern anime style adaptation (ala Netflix's cyberpunk or castlevania) being produced in the near future and I can't imagine either of them working if Link is still a silent protagonist.

Re: Pokémon Fans Vent Frustrations Online About Scarlet & Violet's Technical Issues

TheGreyandTheRed

I honestly don't understand the business model of the Pokémon company and game freak. It would make so much more sense to just concentrate on getting the main line series correct rather bugger about with other games like Arceus and Snap. They are trying to spin too many plates at once and the overall quality is suffering.

If Pokémon want to go all open world then they need to get the baseline right with one game no matter how long it takes, delay it till its near perfect if needs be. Then they can repackage the same engine over and over again till the new hardware comes out. Follow the same process as games like FIFA and call of duty.

Stop giving us these half assed evolutions and just get it right first time. S/s should have been what s/v is trying to be and all of the improvements Arceus made to the format should also be included.

Stop feeding us piecemeal and just get on with it.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Persona 5 Royal On Switch

It's obvious that the game doesn't look as sharp as it does on the ps4 but it runs like butter and the load times don't seem any longer either. For a really high end AAA game that is massive in scope and content, the fact it runs as well as it does on a far less powerful system is remarkable.

In my opinion it's a fantastic port of a brilliant game. I think the devs deserve nothing but praise for it's execution (even if it did take an age to actually happen).

Re: Reggie: Nintendo's Transition From Switch Will Be A "Significant Challenge"

TheGreyandTheRed

From someone who has just bought a current gen Nintendo console for the first time since the N64 (Switch OLED) - Nintendo just needs to keep doing what they are doing.

If Nintendo try to directly compete with Sony or Microsoft they will lose. They hit upon the right format when they released the wii. They competed indirectly by offering a 'different way to play'. Although the wii u was a disaster they refined the concept with the switch and it was a smash. They now have some great first party titles and hold a current niche share of the market.

All these factors are what convinced me to prioritise a switch over the ps5. Nintendo need to continue to offer what the competition doesn't and if they do they will continue to go from strength to strength.

Switch 2 needs to be an evolution not revolution, give us what we currently love but make it better. Larger memory, better graphics, quicker load times, higher resolution but don't lose what makes it stand apart from the others which is the portability ease of use and clever design.

In short, don't fix what isn't broken.
