@WYLD-WOO How is it networking? You can't see who else anyone has streetpassed with, can't then interact with them... It's minimally social at all, and there's no networking. Not a social network.
@Damo headdesk I didn't say it was shocking that it was focused on families. THE ARTICLE SAYS NOTHING THAT RELATES STREETPASS TO SOCIAL NETWORKING. No comparisons to existing services that actually fit the definition of a social network. No explanations of how StreetPass is social at all let alone a social network. The title does not fit.
It's not a bad article, it just has a misleading and rather nonsensical title. "Twitter and Facebook - often so confined and inward-facing" O_o to use an internet cliche: ur doing it wrong. If you're just jabbering about yourself and not interacting with others... why are you on services designed to interact with others? You couldn't pay me to use Facebook (their eula makes me want to punch Zuckerberg in the face) or twitter (I don't even understand the point of that service), but I use G+ all the time. I post pictures of interesting things I come across (old games, weird adverts, various facepalm-inducing things), my thoughts on things, and comment on other people's posts. We interact, have conversations, share opinions... I think that's pretty much the definition of "social". StreetPass is "Hi, I'm FooBar from BazQux. I like cats. My dream for the future is to do something". Then you hit ghosts with swords without knowing anything else about the person. If that's more social than what you're getting on social networking sites, that's just verkachte! O_O
@Damo
Yeah. Social networks are mentioned once, and then they just describe streetpass and how it can work in a familial setting.
The title doesn't mention families, and the article never mentions how it makes things "social again". I find streetpass to be extremely impersonal. A few words exchanged that are directed toward anyone and everyone. Then you play video games where only the colour of shirts and number of Miis matter.
@dres
I specifically said I wasn't unhappy that the patch existed.
I said I was unhappy that the patch won't be available once the system is EOLed.
Older broken games were broken when they came out and stayed that way.
New games are more often broken on release, get fixed, and will be broken again some day when they're no longer supported.
In the long run is that really so much better? People are still playing the NES. How long is the real life of a system? How many people will eventually be playing these games? Are these games that get patches going to be played more with them or without them? These are important questions we should be asking ourselves.
I'm not very upset, but I dislike repeating myself or over-explaning things...
@MAB I'm not sure you even realise it, but you're trolling. You're on a Nintendo-focused site, insulting people that play Nintendo games. That's almost definitional trolling.
If that's your honest opinion of people that play Nintendo games, perhaps you should A: go play some older Nintendo games, and B: find somewhere else to post. Also, who says all games have to be hard?
I'm not upset that they patched this. These seem like useful improvements. However, I'm just sad that patches to games won't be usable once the system is EOLed.
It's bad enough that retro gaming is pre-emptively dead for download-only console gaming, but nowadays physical games will have a different experience to what we get while the system is supported by online updates. Many games have day-one patches! Think of it: in 10 years, people will buy this game in a retro gaming shop or on ebay and won't get an extra life for 100 rings. They'll buy some AAA FPS and the game will be borderline broken because there will be no patch... sigh The ending of support for last/current generation systems will likely cause a big shift in how we view features like downloads/online. The proposed and removed DRM for the XBone would have completely killed retro gaming for the system when online support for the system eventually ended (nothing lasts forever), and they still want to go that way eventually. Oy, gevalt, I'm a crotchety old man waving his cane, hoping people will give a crap.
"a free-to-play offering which apparently involves selecting the correct gears during a road race. According to the magazine, the car steers automatically." Sounds great. -_-
@SirGreatNose Your snide, opinionated post caused me to infer anger. Few people can be such a putz without being angry.
"THE ONLY WAY TO REVIEW A RETRO GAME IS TO SAY WHETHER OR NOT IT IS PRESENTED ACCURATELY!!! NO GAME SHOULD EVER BE REVIEWED ON ITS OWN MERITS!" Considering you want this Nintendo NEWS/REVIEW site to be Nintendo FAN site I'm surprised you didn't get angry that a Mega Drive/Genesis game was being reviewed.
@linktothepichu I played bits and pieces at friends' houses and in stores. Didn't appeal to me. Most of that generation fell off my radar, and I still haven't seen anything for the N64 that makes me want the system.
@Darel18 O_o Hmm... You couldn't get me to play a cart racer, let alone buy one. When a friend, who also has a 3DS got MK7 they emailed me saying "it's like they took all the best parts of the other games and put them together" (paraphrased) and my thought was "eew". This game, however, is the first to make me think "hmm. Might actually get that system before it's obsolete and cheap".
My main point here is that your opinion is your opinion, and your tastes are your tastes. They do not necessarily reflect the tastes of others. You can like what you like, but that doesn't mean that's what will sell to other people.
@Nico85 there are many different ways of doing turn-based combat. SMT is different to DQ is different to Chrono Trigger etc. Not every style is for everyone. I started on CT back in the day and still love it, but could never get into FF. I got SMT4 because of the fire emblem bonus... then bought every main game in the series. (luckily I speak Japanese).
just saying that you can love I've kind of combat and hate another.
@BulbasaurusRex Word up. This is some freaky weirdness.
I never spoke out too strongly against the dating sim/eroge/etc and other fantasy-fulfillment yech that are common in Japan, because from what I heard and experienced while I was there is that it's really really hard to meet people to talk to and hard to find ways to hang out with the ones you already know. So you get lonely people with limited experience, and thus odd ideals. Even if it's a small percentage of the population, it's a significant market! However, I'm somewhat disturbed that there seems to be a growing market in the US for these things. The opportunity to meet people and numerous recreational activities are everywhere! What's going on that people would rather pretend to hang out with fake people than actually hang out with real ones? What's changed? I don't know, but I'm not happy with the results...
@SirQuincealot O_o why do you think it's only worth 6 bucks? If's worth whatever people will pay for it. I won't be buying it at this time, but that's because my budget is a bit tight this month, and can't buy any more games (came across some rare ones at a very good price). I'd have paid more. Shin'en makes quality games. Nano Assault blows me away every time I play it.
@ricklongo SDHC cards aren't that expensive. 32GiB goes a long way in the eShop. Then again, maybe you donwload retail games (I don't) or have broader taste in games than I (leading to far more games downloaded). There is a much lower limit on the 3DS, but as you couldn't pay me to switch to download versions of games available at retail, I doubt I'll have to get a new card any time soon.
My only concern with space on the 3DS is the dang 2GiB limit for DSiWare! It'd be as simple as a fiwmware update (yes, I know the coding wouldn't be free, and might take some work, but I know enough about file systems to know this could be done), but I doubt they'll ever bother.
@ReshiramZekrom dude, mahjong is serious business in Japan.
At the end of the night friendships will be over and bank accounts emptied.
I want nothing to do with it, but it is a complex and intense gambling game.
"Well no, but then given the topic at hand I assumed you might fill in the blanks yourself. I didn't think things like rape had to be pointed out as being bad, but appearantly so."
My thoughts exactly.
"but you also don't gain anything from wishing it didn't exist or trying to discourage others from enjoying it. " ...a better world is a thing that is nice, and all should work toward. So I call BS/Shenanigans when I see it, and point out good ideas/things. That's all you can do, really.
That's basically the only reason to do anything, I think. Personal enjoyment is just something to get through life, and you hope to have made a difference.
"This is the kind of thing you probably wouldn't know someone is into anyway." Yes and no. Yes, because then "Oh, god. Gtfo. Now. Go." No to maintain status quo.
What I wish is this almost never-ending spiral of wishing people hadn't been raised in such a way as they would then go on to raise people in such a way as... resulting in people who think making a game like this is a good idea.
It's like, when I meet someone, and they end up saying something racist, I want to slap their parents, and so on
@froogus98
A few things
1: I didn't say regularly. I didn't make any statement of frequency.
2: You called me a puritan for saying this game is offensive, now you're implying that you can never see porn without being part of the patriarchy. Make up your mind. Is sexuality fine, or not. You've left no room for a grey area, so where do you stand? o_o
3: I said I laughed at second-rate porn. As in: "AHHAAHA Yeah, right! That's ridiculous. EEEeeeew! Don't do that! Don't do it like that anyway!" Like watching any terrible movie. Riffing, ala MST3K.
Straaaaaawmaaaaaaan.
PS: An argument can be made (I'm not going to bother to try to make it, just saying that IT HAS BEEN MADE AT SOME POINT BY OTHERS) that pornography is equally degrading to men and women, for various reasons. It's a complex issue, and has always been an issue since drawing was invented.
@shaneoh ""That's not how formatting works on this site. FAIL"
Said the person who found a typo and attacked" Umm... That is what just happened, kinda. You said "FAIL" in allcaps (well, tried to), and I pointed out that you formatted it incorrectly, and then did the same thing correctly, pointing out that while it is possible, you didn't do it. There's this thing called "verbal irony", though this may fall under "sarcasm". I'm a bit tired, and CBA to look it up. "I think the most misogynistic part of this whole thing is that we are assuming these are females being depicted in this game" What? So... you think it's equally likely that there will be some Crying Game reveal at some point? While that's technically a possibility, I'm not sure it's worth consideration.
@froogus98 O_o If you knew me at all, you'd know I'm no puritan.
Sex and sexuality aren't problems, it's how they're used.
I'm a big fan of the work of Wendy O. Williams, who used sexuality in much the same way as Ted Nugent had, but somewhat less offensive (to me). Not so much objectification or violence, more self-aggrandisement. Anyway, it's pretty close to impossible to dig The Plasmatics and be a puritan Anyone I've dated in the past can also vouch for me not being a puritan, or one to freak out over sexuality.
Like sex, it's how the killing of the creature is handled that matters. If there's no reason for it, it's rather "yech" and if the animal also suffers I find it personally revolting. Cabela's games, where you just kill innocent animals are fairly "yuck" but in Etrian Odyssey it's not so bad, because I just want to get to the next level and they're trying to KILL ME. Self defense.
Displaying one's own sexual power/prowess isn't the same as being a character out of a second-rate porno (yeah, I've seen a few. Generally laugh-AT hilarious dreck). Those aren't polar opposites, either. It can get pretty subtle.
This game isn't subtle. It isn't even original. Games like this have been around since the early days of the DS.
@shaneoh sigh
Fine.
A SEX scene. Standard usage of "love scene" is "consentual sex scene". Context is important when using or reading words. Emotions aren't even necessarily part of what's commonly called a "love scene". That's why I didn't make the connection, otherwise I would have clarified, rather than call 'strawman'.
So they weren't bringing things up out of the blue, just cherry-picking words and splitting hairs.
That's not how formatting works on this site. FAIL (cute edit, btw)
I'm not flamebaiting, or even being antagonistic. I'm just stating my opinion, and my opinions are strong and well-defined. (as opposed to hazy and nebulous)
@Windy Well, SwapNote is a Nintendo product, and this is a third-party game. A jiggle-physics brawler that's been out in Japan for some time is being localised, and some of the demon designs in SMT4... WHOO-boy! O_O (rated M for Mara) Nintendo self-censors, but doesn't censor.
@Zombie_Barioth There's nothing wrong with simplification, even to reductio ad absurdum.
I'm not talking about the people that will/may play the game. I'm talking about the game itself.
The game itself is misogynistic. It is a work of misogyny. It is the result of misogynistic views, consciously or not.
IT REPRESENTS WOMEN PURELY AS STEREOTYPICAL OBJECTS TO BE CONQUERED AND FONDLED INTO SUBMISSION. There's no other way to view the subject matter that makes the slightest bit of sense.
If someone plays the game and says "heheh, that's funny..." and doesn't notice that, then I'd have no problem with them whatsoever. Well, I'd find them rather dim, but that's not so bad.
You seem to be arguing that so long as someone watches something and sees something not-bad in it, it's fine. If someone, somehow, didn't know what was going on in a hentai game designed to simulate sex crimes and thought they were a hero of some kind, the game is still about RAPING WOMEN. If you played it without the actual desire to rape women, you're still playing a game about RAPING WOMEN. This game isn't as bad, but it's from the same part of town, so to speak. Force women in stereotypical, sexualised uniforms/costumes to submit via force, then fondle them. That's (weird, costumey) sexual assault.
If you're just being all relativist on me, then stop talking, because you're expressing a viewpoint, and by relativism's standards all viewpoints are both equally valid and invalid.
PS:
You seem to be arguing in a manner defending the game's existence more than being in favor of it being played, per se.
I'm not calling for a ban, I'm stating that I wish they hadn't decided to make the game, and would hope that people would decide to not play such things.
I'm all for freedom of speech, and I include games in that. That said, I'll use my freedom of speech to speak out against other speech as much as defend the rights of that person to speak it. I'll try to stop them, but only with words of discouragement.
I also use speech for encouragement.
Words. Both harmless and powerful.
@PrincessSugoi ". Maybe I just don't get it because I'm a yaoi fangirl used to seeing males being submissive and "objectified" on a daily basis and I read comics where males are held to the same unrealistic standards as women." ...Yeah. That's just as much of a problem. A host club is just as unsavoury as a hostess club.
@Zombie_Barioth You don't have to hate women to be misogynistic. Putting women on a pedastal is just as problematic, because that's treating them like objects rather than people. If you idealise them, when they don't fit that ideal, that becomes a 'problem' rather than 'a person being an individual'.
@Kaze_Memaryu It's not revealing clothing alone, it's revealing clothing on establised female stereotypes. It's double-misogyny. If there was a game that depicted all Jewish characters as money-grubbing Hassidim with hook-noses, constantly dancing to Klezmer music, that would be pretty messed-up, too. To call being against overt objectification "old-fashioned" is the most backward, nonsensical thinking I can imagine at the moment. Style Savvy also allows you to play as a male, iirc. Bad example. This isn't about "open" or "closed". It's looking at what we have, acknowledging both intent and any logical interpretation, and seeing that they've depicted women as broad, sexual stereotypes to be subjigated sexually. Sexual content and/or characters in sexually-provocative clothing aren't problems. It's how they're used. Just like a love scene and a rape scene are two different things. Context and presentation.
@Kaze_Memaryu "sexy girls are more complimenting to females in general than they are supposedly insulting. "
...You don't talk to women much, do you?
Prostitute-versions of a ninja (in a mini skirt which makes no sense) a maid (of course a servant needs to be present) a nun (yeah. nun with her breasts out. makes perfect sense) a princess, a ??? and a ...nazi?
This is a fantastic representation of women. Oh, and of course all women want to be felt up after you beat them at something. They like to be put in their place. It makes them feel empowered rolls eyes
@NINTENCHIP " It's not sexist against women." what is it then? Women in scanty, stereotypical outfits getting felt up into submission. ...Do you know what "sexism" even means? This isn't the only definition, but oh it fits, alright.
@kupo Look up the terms "objectification" and "SEXUAL ASSAULT". I think feeling someone up without specific permission after you beat them in a fight is pretty messed-up.
I've pre-ordered this, but the focus on multiplayer makes me wonder if it won't end up as a cool box of stuff and a game I won't be playing much... Diablo never looked like my thing.
...Japan... It's not that I don't think we have a market for such misogyny in the US, but it's so much more acceptable in Japan. Then again: GTA. Hmmm...
@ngamer155 Yeah. The confusion they caused with "let's make a system that looks and sounds like our last one which we sold to people who don't know about the video game industry" is likely a big part of why there are now about 10 games for the Wii U that I'd want, and upon checking, about 50 for the PS3 (which I don't have. Guess what I'm saving up for first?
Maybe there would be greater reason Earthbound, Super Luigi U, and a few other first party titles and indie stuff if they'd made this move sooner. A large portion of the target audience of the Wii (which is... everyone) doesn't really understand what gaming system is, what it does, and that iterations happen and don't work together. There are people who buy Blu Ray discs and try to play them in their DVD player, and don't understand why it won't work, even when you tell them. If there was just no more Wii (other than a slight overlap, in store/warehouse stock should cover that. DS Lite production stopped around the intro of the 3DS, but they had enough to sell for over a year iirc) and now there's a Wii U on the shelf instead, I think that could have worked. "Why is it so much more expensive now?" "Oh, that's the new version. It's improved, and comes with a controller that has a screen in it." "oh, I see." As opposed to "Why is this one so much more expensive?" "It has better graphics and has this cotnroller with a screen in it" "oh. Will those graphics work on my TV? Where can I buy the controller seperately?" Basically, I gave up on convincing my Mom to upgrade. if TVii had worked properly, there'dve been a chance, but... that's another story.
@Ren The store is the only thing not down yet. Considering they've stopped production of the system, it's just a matter of time. Gotta snag that are rare in the real world before it's too late.
@gracesmom No, but since you're selling it, they could. shrug If you'd made it for her, then even given it a way you'd be in the clear, but selling copyrighted/trademarked material without permission is illegal. So, they won't sue, it's not the making of it, it's the selling of it, and that's absolutely adorable.
@unrandomsam First of all: Yes. That's fine. Copyright has never been used the way it was originally intended anyway, so the idea of it as a "necessary evil" is kind of "meh". It's also illegal to be drunk in public in the US, but not in Japan. I'm also fine with that.
Secondly: THAT HAPPENED OVER 20 YEARS AGO. The NES game genie connects the copy-protection pins on the cart to the copy-protection pins on the system. I forgot that initially, then remembered when you persisted in this Bubble Bobble nonsense. That's also how the SNES version works. The old Game Genie(s) works in a way different to the modern cheat devices. It modifies/redirects code on the way to memory by being physically between them. Systems were simpler then. Just stop. You're acting like a child. You goofed. Accept it and move on.
Fourth: "The worst thing any person or company can do is act in a hypocritical manner." ...The most confusing thing a person or company can do is say a non-sequitur. O_O??? Also, hypocricy isn't the worst thing. If someone says "murder is wrong" but is actually a murderer, their statement is still correct. That's just a little lesson in basic logical philosophy.
Either way this game exists and it won't go away. (If it does get removed 20 more will pop up and it will get more publicity.) Yes. And nintendo will always have the legal right to have it removed.
@unrandomsam The United States' copyright law came into being after the ratification of the constitution. That should be a no-brainer, because no US law existed before the US. You want every country to have the same laws? Too bad. Doesn't work that way. Dream of a one world gov't. The US wanted to make the works of the British available under different terms on their soil, and they can do that, because the US was no longer part of Britain. Their country, their rules. International trade would work differently, but that's a whole different set of laws.
Stop conflating law governing copyright (civil) and law governing physical property (criminal). Copyright violation is not the same thing as theft. Nothing is stolen. Legal rights are violated. DIFFERENT. THINGS.
STOP TALKING ABOUT THE DSi!!!! This is a really, really poor attempt to change the subject. The Game Genie does not contain any illegal code, and doesn't need to. "What I read about bubble bobble was a similar type of article with the same amount of detail that I cannot find." First you heard it from someone, then you read some article that you can't find. That sure sounds reputable. -_- Even if said article existed, perhaps the reason you can't find it is because the author took it down because they were wrong? HMMMMMMM? MAAAAAYBE?? Maybe you were wrooooong?? A tiny mistaaake? HMMMMMMMMM??????
@unrandomsam There's nothing to be found online about this supposed inclusion of bubble bobble code. There are multiple ways to bypass the lockout chip. (SEE ALSO: COLOR DREAMS. READ. BEFORE. REPLY.) Read up on the chip. Hell, wikipedia has a decent amount of info on it. Actually, this is all moot: THE GAME GENIE USES THE CHIP IN THE CARTRIDGE YOU HAVE INSERTED TO BOOT. It doesn't need to bypass the chip, because there's no point in using the game genie on its own. Action Replay, Schmaction Replay. "Something else exists" means nothing here. Has Nintendo issued a cease-and-desist order? Are there legal proceedings? If Action Replay doesn't A: contain code they don't have the rights to and B: win a court case. You're just saying jibber-jabber, and/or attempting misdirection. You've already stated patently false hearsay about something that isn't even relevant here. "There is also the fact that what rules there are are not applied fairly." How is that relevant to the discussion at hand? Are you arguing that there should be no rules? "The founding fathers were some of the biggest IP thieves in history. (Certainly in terms of scale)." Copyright was invented after the United States constitution was rattified. Can't steal what isn't owned. Actually, you can't steal IP. You can violate copyright. Oh, and WHAT THE HELL DOES ANY OF THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING???
@unrandomsam So you "heard from some guy somewhere"? Not information that's useful, really. The action replay I'm not sure, but that's really just changing the subject, isn't it? Unsigned code works fine on the NES (see Color Dreams), so the idea that it would need to do that to work is a moot point as well. All of this is irrelevant. This particular case is 100% in Nintendo's favour. He said it was Mario, designed everything to look like Mario, used levels from actual Mario games... The intent to infringe is clear. Nintendo Wins. Flawless Victory. Fatality.
@unrandomsam A: your Pong/Bit Trip shpiel is irrelevant, because there were already 100.000.000 pong clones by 1979, and how do you copyright "2D table tennis with some walls"? You could try to trademark it, I guess...
Do some research. Legal precedent is on Nintendo's side here. Actually, the owners of the Tetris rights spent years on and off successfully taking down tetris clones. I think they just take down clones that also claim to be Tetris, because there are too many of them, and they're too easy to clone.
"The Game Genie included a significant amount of the program code of Bubble Bobble and was judged to be legal" O_o WHAT??? What the hell are you smoking? That's simply not true. If you're talking about the game genie taking Bubble Bobble's data, altering it, then feeding it to the NES... That's what it does for any game, and the result vanishes when you hit "RESET".
Emulators are legal. Copied ROMs are not. This has been shown in court. Emulators pretend to be hardware and run code. ROMs ARE code. That's the difference. The level design is copyrighted. This is a fact. There is legal precedent.. "Nintendo has" well, let the owner of these alleged Atari games sue. Wait, perhaps they got permission. It's not as though they don't have the money to get a license, dude. You bring up bit trip/pong again despite the point being moot. What Nintendo should/might/may have done doesn't matter. They had the right to issue a takedown, and they did. That's what happened, and there's nothing illegal or unusual going on. The maker of that website is either a fool, or just really ballsy. "I am not arguing for someone doing the same thing for the DS one. (That is incredibly bad and Nintendo seem to be doing nothing about it. Amazon now even is full of counterfeits)." What does this even mean? Not a dis, I just don't understand (I've been in a "second language" situation a couple times myself).

"THE ONLY WAY TO REVIEW A RETRO GAME IS TO SAY WHETHER OR NOT IT IS PRESENTED ACCURATELY!!! NO GAME SHOULD EVER BE REVIEWED ON ITS OWN MERITS!"
Considering you want this Nintendo NEWS/REVIEW site to be Nintendo FAN site I'm surprised you didn't get angry that a Mega Drive/Genesis game was being reviewed.
Re: Review: 3D Altered Beast (3DS eShop)
@SirGreatNose oy, gevalt...
do you do anything but rage?
Re: Weirdness: Super Mario 64 Corruptions Yield Hilarious and/or Terrifying Results
@linktothepichu I played bits and pieces at friends' houses and in stores.
Didn't appeal to me. Most of that generation fell off my radar, and I still haven't seen anything for the N64 that makes me want the system.
Re: Weirdness: Super Mario 64 Corruptions Yield Hilarious and/or Terrifying Results
Hmmmm. Maybe I'll actually play this game, now.
Re: Super Mario 3D World Sells 57% of Its Initial Shipment in Japan
@SirGreatNose ..YES. YES, IT IS.
Re: Super Mario 3D World Sells 57% of Its Initial Shipment in Japan
@Darel18 O_o
Hmm...
Re: Super Mario 3D World Sells 57% of Its Initial Shipment in Japan
@SirGreatNose Since when is this a "fan" site?
Looks like a news site to me, and this is news.
Re: Review: Bravely Default (3DS)
@Nico85 there are many different ways of doing turn-based combat.
SMT is different to DQ is different to Chrono Trigger etc.
Not every style is for everyone. I started on CT back in the day and still love it, but could never get into FF. I got SMT4 because of the fire emblem bonus... then bought every main game in the series. (luckily I speak Japanese).
just saying that you can love I've kind of combat and hate another.
Re: Review: Bravely Default (3DS)
@Galenmereth
out of curiosity, do you find turn-based combat boring in general, or just here?
Re: Review: Mario Party: Island Tour (3DS)
@Dark-Luigi Or maybe people just expect more from a first-party title.
Re: Review: Mario Party: Island Tour (3DS)
@Shade_Koopa I know one person who has a 3DS.
They live 2 hours away.
Yeah.
Re: Conception II Due in North America This Spring
@BulbasaurusRex Word up.
Re: Jett Rocket II: The Wrath of Taikai Available Now on the 3DS eShop
@SirQuincealot O_o why do you think it's only worth 6 bucks? If's worth whatever people will pay for it.
I won't be buying it at this time, but that's because my budget is a bit tight this month, and can't buy any more games (came across some rare ones at a very good price).
I'd have paid more. Shin'en makes quality games. Nano Assault blows me away every time I play it.
Re: Jett Rocket II: The Wrath of Taikai Available Now on the 3DS eShop
Re: Weirdness: Nintendo Goes Old School With a Mahjong Set
@ReshiramZekrom dude, mahjong is serious business in Japan.
At the end of the night friendships will be over and bank accounts emptied.
I want nothing to do with it, but it is a complex and intense gambling game.
Re: Weirdness: Nintendo Goes Old School With a Mahjong Set
They never stopped making cards AFAIK.
You can buy plain-old hanafuda cards made by them for a few hundred yen in Japan.
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
It's like, when I meet someone, and they end up saying something racist, I want to slap their parents, and so on
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
@froogus98
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
@shaneoh ""That's not how formatting works on this site. FAIL"
Said the person who found a typo and attacked"
Umm...
"I think the most misogynistic part of this whole thing is that we are assuming these are females being depicted in this game"
What? So... you think it's equally likely that there will be some Crying Game reveal at some point?
While that's technically a possibility, I'm not sure it's worth consideration.
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
@shaneoh sigh
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
@Windy Well, SwapNote is a Nintendo product, and this is a third-party game.
A jiggle-physics brawler that's been out in Japan for some time is being localised, and some of the demon designs in SMT4... WHOO-boy! O_O (rated M for Mara)
Nintendo self-censors, but doesn't censor.
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
@Kaze_Memaryu Things don't need to be explicitly stated to be expressed.
I never brought up love, nor is it ever mentioned anywhere in the article or in any comment I have replied to. This is a strawman argument. Fail.
"It doesn't depict deep emotions or complex relationship" Then why'd you bring them (love) up?
EDIT: headdesk... A "love scene" refers to a "sex scene". The difference between it and a rape scene is singular: consent. That's all. "Love scene" does not mean "scene with love in it". It's just a bit of semi-puritanical shame about the word sex leaking into the English language. Yeesh. Not catching that genuinely surprised me. I honestly had zero idea what on earth you were talking about.
Why do you associate "breasts hanging out" with "open-minded"? O_o
"é), while the tapping part is mostly a reinforcement of the fact that these are still young girls deep within - dropping the facade of the 'roles' they represent."... WHAT??? How does being defeated in battle then fondled have anything to do with anything you stated? And you tell me that I'm reading too much into this...
"No woman is - or rather should be - insulted just bcause a game uses innuendo and/or sexual themes as part of gameplay and design." See also: graphic hentai games that simulate crimes. "worse/better than" is not the same as "different from".
"Those who feel like this game discriminates them as females have more of a self-consciousness problem than anything." I'm a guy.
"Also, Style Savvy does NOT allow you to play as a male character, only to dress up guys while the MC is still a girl. Joke's on you."
Why is there a joke? I remembered incorrectly. So that game is slightly offensive in the same way that so many action/adventure/Role-Playing games usually have a male protagonist. It's only 'sigh-inducing' rather than 'nausea-inducing'.
LESS of a problem, but still a problem. (not the only problem with that game, as after playing the demo I determined that the dev team had terrible fashion sense)
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
@Zombie_Barioth So anything goes so long as it's unrealistic? O_o
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
@PrincessSugoi ". Maybe I just don't get it because I'm a yaoi fangirl used to seeing males being submissive and "objectified" on a daily basis and I read comics where males are held to the same unrealistic standards as women."
...Yeah. That's just as much of a problem.
A host club is just as unsavoury as a hostess club.
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
@Zombie_Barioth You don't have to hate women to be misogynistic.
Putting women on a pedastal is just as problematic, because that's treating them like objects rather than people. If you idealise them, when they don't fit that ideal, that becomes a 'problem' rather than 'a person being an individual'.
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
@Kaze_Memaryu "sexy girls are more complimenting to females in general than they are supposedly insulting. "
...You don't talk to women much, do you?
Prostitute-versions of a ninja (in a mini skirt which makes no sense) a maid (of course a servant needs to be present) a nun (yeah. nun with her breasts out. makes perfect sense) a princess, a ??? and a ...nazi?
This is a fantastic representation of women. Oh, and of course all women want to be felt up after you beat them at something. They like to be put in their place. It makes them feel empowered
rolls eyes
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
@NINTENCHIP " It's not sexist against women." what is it then?
Women in scanty, stereotypical outfits getting felt up into submission.
...Do you know what "sexism" even means? This isn't the only definition, but oh it fits, alright.
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
@kupo Look up the terms "objectification" and "SEXUAL ASSAULT".
I think feeling someone up without specific permission after you beat them in a fight is pretty messed-up.
Re: Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I DON'T KNOW!
I've pre-ordered this, but the focus on multiplayer makes me wonder if it won't end up as a cool box of stuff and a game I won't be playing much...
Diablo never looked like my thing.
Re: First Impressions: Stardust Amazoness
...Japan...
It's not that I don't think we have a market for such misogyny in the US, but it's so much more acceptable in Japan.
Then again: GTA.
Hmmm...
Re: Nintendo Japan Confirms an End to Wii Production
It's improved, and comes with a controller that has a screen in it." "oh, I see."
As opposed to "Why is this one so much more expensive?" "It has better graphics and has this cotnroller with a screen in it" "oh. Will those graphics work on my TV? Where can I buy the controller seperately?"
Basically, I gave up on convincing my Mom to upgrade. if TVii had worked properly, there'dve been a chance, but... that's another story.
Re: Nintendo Japan Confirms an End to Wii Production
@Ren The store is the only thing not down yet.
Considering they've stopped production of the system, it's just a matter of time. Gotta snag that are rare in the real world before it's too late.
Re: Nintendo Wants To Close Down This Open-Source Web Version Of Super Mario Bros.
@gracesmom No, but since you're selling it, they could.
shrug
If you'd made it for her, then even given it a way you'd be in the clear, but selling copyrighted/trademarked material without permission is illegal.
So, they won't sue, it's not the making of it, it's the selling of it, and that's absolutely adorable.
Re: Nintendo Wants To Close Down This Open-Source Web Version Of Super Mario Bros.
Re: Nintendo Wants To Close Down This Open-Source Web Version Of Super Mario Bros.
Even if said article existed, perhaps the reason you can't find it is because the author took it down because they were wrong?
HMMMMMMM?
MAAAAAYBE??
Maybe you were wrooooong??
A tiny mistaaake?
HMMMMMMMMM??????
Re: Nintendo Wants To Close Down This Open-Source Web Version Of Super Mario Bros.
Re: Nintendo Wants To Close Down This Open-Source Web Version Of Super Mario Bros.
Fatality.
Re: Nintendo Wants To Close Down This Open-Source Web Version Of Super Mario Bros.
