Long as the events give enough gems per day, it might not be that horrible. You'll get enough free gems to start building a deck as a first-day player. We all know that buying 3 starting decks is valid depending on which one and the Ban list.
The big problem comes from people who just can't say no when they think that spending .99 cents for 100 gems seems fair. Which I'm using as a default amount. Some games are like it will seriously cost you 40 bucks for enough to buy a new "Pack" for something. Others might be 5 or 10. Depending on the cost for enough gems for a new pack [which should be "10" technically but that's still a lot for a non-physical product] Will depend on a lot of factors.
Still, if you can handle it, and know to never buy anything it could be a nice side option. If the duels can handle random one-bar cell single's well.
