@rjejr Some people smarter than me have already done analysis on the chipset and its graphical capabilities. Graphically, with shader units and such considered, docked mode should be around PS4 Pro level, before DLSS is considered.
The PS4 level comment is about handheld mode, and that's assuming they take the chip we know about and ita clocked the same way the current Switch is. Handheld likely wouldn't be using DLSS as it's too power hungry for practical use. But PS4 level gpu can definitely do 720p.
@VoidofLight We've gotten quite a few new clips within the past month, Japan has gotten more however.
People tend to be split on how they want their Pokemon news, many felt Sun and Moon revealed too much, but some want to know everything about the game before it's revealed. So they have to really deal with a massive fan base who all has very split ideas on how much they want to know about the game.
Personally, I think they've shown me enough and I want to discover the rest myself.
The comments section here is appalling as usual. I usually don't bother reading, let alone commenting, but I'm going to say my piece here.
Masuda gets a lot of unwarranted hate. The man has been directing Pokemon games since Gen 3, and by most "hardcore" fans, the golden age is considered Gen 3-5, of which Junichi Masuda is very responsible for many of the decisions that made those games great.
That being said, even as a director of the Pokemon series, there are factors that can't be controlled. For instance, budget would be decided by the Pokemon Company based on number of staff and other figures, Pokemon assets like the models and animations are sourced from Creatures Inc, etc. Many of the complaints about Pokemon models, animations or lack thereof isn't even GameFreak's responsibility, it's from their sister company.
That said, Pokemon has in recent years made a number of changes to streamline the games and make them more applicable to many fans of very different ages. For whatever reason, older fans view this as an insult to their intelligence, when it's really just an attempt to allow more fans to play the games without getting frustrated. I see many harping specifically on Sun and Moon and Sword and Shield, and the irony of it all is that Masuda didn't even direct those games, Shigeru Ohmori did, and he's a much newer hire.
Masuda has always been kind to his fans, those he interacts with on Twitter and as far as I've heard, his employees as well. Those complaining about how GameFreak needs new blood fail to realize that GameFreak has been hiring new blood all the time. They often hire new developers, fresh graduates or otherwise, and have been doing so since Gen 5, or even earlier.
Telling someone to retire, to get away from the company or that they ruined a franchise because you have personal disagreements with them not only shows immaturity, but ignorance of the bigger picture. The changes with Pokemon as of late have not been due to the greed of a single person, but rather logistical and business decisions decided by everyone at the Pokemon Company (GameFreak, Creatures Inc, and Nintendo).
Legends Arceus is a fresh new idea, and the series has a bright future, yet I still see people directing hate towards these game directors hiding behind a shield of false virtue. You can say you're targeting corporate greed, but when you're targeting a specific person, especially one who has helped build the foundation of the franchise as a whole, you're clearly filled with more hateful intentions that you are of good ones.
I'm not saying you can't throw criticism at GameFreak, of course everyone is free to critique things. What I was saying is the vitriol towards them, is absolutely uncalled for. It's completely blown out of proportion and leaves a terrible taste in my mouth just mentioning it.
Can't agree with your statement that Gen 8 just looks like an upscaled 3DS game. There are some similarities in character model complexity, but the lighting engine and environments are far more complex than anything on the 3DS. The 3DS had all its lighting baked in, and the battle arenas consisted of basically 2d cutouts spaced out a different angles. Not saying Sword and Shield don't have issues in the art style department. The Wild Area is very inconsistent in it's direction, and the textures don't really land a lot of the time, but there are some very good looking areas. and I think saying it looks like a upscaled 3DS game is both disingenuous and lacking in technical perspective.
Xenoblade X is an extremely special game, despite it's differences from the first game and Xenoblade 2, it holds a special place in my heart and obviously has a very impressive engine as it stills manages to hold up extremely well even when compared to the more powerful consoles at the time. Xenoblade is definitely more advanced than Pokemon, but Monolith Soft is also an extremely talented developer, there's a reason why Nintendo hired them to help with Breath of the Wild. In fact, many Monolith Soft developers already helped with Sword and Shield. Monolith is much more experience than GameFreak in console hardware and in technical aspects, but that doesn't mean GameFreak is a "bad" developer.
"The only two possible conclusions from that are that gamefreak is either unwilling, or incapable of releasing games even a fraction of that scale despite having access to FAR more resources."
If you think there are only two possible conclusions, you need to broaden your horizons. The reality is that GameFreak doesn't have as many resources as many think they have. They have a set budget and time constraints just like any other developer. I think they suffered by setting too short of a timeframe for their SwSh, but once the franchise plans are set in stone, it's very difficult to put a hold on the entire franchise, as everything revolves around that game release. GameFreak has been hiring a lot more developers and working on developing their teams further, but that stuff doesn't happen overnight. They're not incapable, and they're not unwilling, they're just experiences growing pains. Speaking from personal experience, with new technologies come new issues, and as much as you'd like to think you've prepared for it, you don't know until it happens.
@Yorumi It was the Pokemon Company who contracted them, so I'd say all three holders are to blame: Nintendo, Creatures and GameFreak.
I'd say GameFreak is more competent than many tend to admit. Most of the games have a positive reception, SwSh was the only really truly divisive one they've made in the last 25 years. I think that's hardly worth the vitriol the team has received as a result. Every long running game series has had a game or games that fans don't really love.
It's bizarre to me that people are still finding ways to blame GameFreak for this game when the problems with these games most definitely mainly lie with ILCA.
Ive been enjoying the game for what it is. However this is by far the buggiest Pokemon game we've had since the GB originals and that's entirely on ILCA. GameFreaks recent games, even if though some might view them as lackluster, had much more polish to them, particularly in the mechanical aspects.
The decisions made for BDSP lie with the developers and then at a high level, the three heads of the Pokemon Company, Nintendo, Creatures and GameFreak, but that's moreso general guidelines and services, not gameplay.
Like them or not, let's make sure we don't start spewing hate at developers, and try to be reasonable with eachother.
Nintendo Life comments are always a trip. Somehow commenters think this is the only 'honest' review, because of it's lower score. Mind you that 6/10 on the Nintendo Life scale is "Not Bad", where as other reviewers treat 6 very differently. Review scoring, both in numbered scoring and the actual scores are all subjective.
It's obvious people feel a lot different about the art-style and mechanics of the games. As always Pokemon fans are completely divided on what they want, I know people who love they went the true to form remake and stayed away from the Swsh route, and some that hate that they didn't go the SwSh route. You'll never please everyone.
I tend to ignore scores, and just focus on the content of the review and in that case it's a pretty good review, even if I disagree on a lot of points. It does feel a bit disingenuous to say that SwSh were 'plagued' with framerate issues, when there's only a single area of the game that I can experience any notable framerate drops in and that's when you're connected to the online in the wild area, other than that it's a very smooth game.
As a software developer myself, I can attest to many projects being simple in concept, but difficult in execution. Often times I run into roadblocks or difficulties I didn't intend to experience, and many projects that I thought would be "easy", end up becoming complex. Game development is far more complex than what I do as there are so many more moving pieces, the scope and control of the games are sometimes mindbending for me to think about managing properly. I give major respect to any game developer who is putting work hours in, I think many are underpaid for what they do, especially Japanese developers.
I've noticed that the people who are the most upset about a project, tend to be the ones who know the least about how they work. As gaming continues to become larger and more mainstream, the criticisms that are in play tend to come from people that are even less aware of the complexities of game development.
By all means express your dislikes about a game, I see flaws in plenty of aspects of even my favorite games. But harassment of developers for being "lazy" or "bad" are ignorant at best, malicious at worst. You never truly know the effort that goes into game development unless you're on the team itself, many people work hard for years and the game just doesn't turn out as envisioned. Unfortunate? Yes. Bad or lazy developer? Hardly.

Re: Random: Is Masahiro Sakurai Throwing Shade At Pokémon's Trees?
You have got to be joking me. I swear it's as if you think any mention of trees at this point has to be a slight towards GameFreak.
Please stop.
