Re: Talking Point: Is Hollow Knight: Silksong Too Difficult?

Yeah I definitely agree with most of the opinions in this article. I’m about an hour and a half into act 2 (just beat the Cogwork Dancers) and so far, the game has been pretty hard. However, as I die over and over on specific bosses who shall remain unnamed (this game has ruined bells for me…), I have actually enjoyed myself. The bosses have some really cool designs, with their battle arena, their attacks, their phases, and their actual sprites, making them fun to fight and learn.

One thing that is slightly annoying is some of the paths from the bench to the boss. On the Last Judge fight, I probably spent the more time dying on the way to him than actually fighting him. However, having to trek a long way back to the bosses after dying has always been a staple of Metroidvanias for a long time (Phantoon from Super Metroid), so it’s not a huge deal.

As far as the exploration itself, I also enjoy the challenge (though there may be a feeew too many double-damage basic enemies). The different areas you come across are beautiful and fun to explore (most of them, anyways).

All in all, I think that the difficulty is definitely hard, but (and this may be because I played the original game several times) I feel like the game itself is worth the challenge. We can’t have too many modern games be super easy, can we?
