Only 3 ex-Rare devs were working at the new Free Radical. David Doak, Steve Ellis and Martin Wakeley. Doak and Ellis worked on Goldeneye and a bit on Perfect Dark, while Wakeley worked on Blast Corps, Jet Force Gemini and Mickey's Speedway USA back in their Rare days.
Doak's last game was Haze in 2008. Ellis and Wakeley worked also on Haze, as well as the multiplayer mode of Crysis 2. In 2011, Ellis and Wakeley founded a new company called"Crash Lab", which developed mobile games.
Great post! And then there are still quite a few from the old guard at Rare. If you draw the line at the MS buyout in september 02 than there are also more of them still at Rare than at Playtonic.
Guys like DKC's and Banjo's Creator Gregg Mayles, Programmer (also worked on Stop n Swop) Paul Macachek, Musician Robin Beanland, Louise O'Connor (Animation Conker/ Voice of Berry) or Chris Marlow (Programmer Conker/ Voice of the Great Mighty Poo) are still there.
Don't forget that the Stamper's are also back in business with Fortune Fish. Richard Vaucher has already left Chameleon Games, so they don't have any of the old Rare devs right now.
Nintendo also gave an statement about why they sold their shares of Rare back than in the official Nintendo Magazine (issue 122).
It was because Rare's games were selling poorly. Rare ended up to contributing only 1,5% to Nintendo's business. Various Gamecube and GBA Projects were also not completed on time.
Back in the day Nintendo also focused its development on Japanese developers, such as Sega, Capcom or Namco, who created exklusive games for Gamecube & GBA.
@PickledKong64 There aren't any former Rare employees at Retro Studios right now. There was only one guy, Rhys Lewis, who worked at Rare from 97-00 and later at Retro from 07 - 13.
@Trajan Other Bad Day was canceled during the Gamecube days. These documents were created in december 2001. After Other Bad Day, Chris Seavor worked in 2002 on Arc Angel, which was also canceled by Rare and Quest, a MMO for Gamecube, which was put on hold when the Microsoft deal happened.
After the deal, Seavor wanted to make a "Team Fortress" like game ( he was a big fan of the game at the time) in the Conker universe and so the development of Live & Reloaded started.

Rare also owns everything else of the game except like you said Diddy Kong, Krunch & most likely Tricky.
They also released new "Rare Racers " (since they can't use Diddy Kong Racing) pins via Fangamer, like Timber and Wizpig.
