Buyer beware! I picked this up yesterday looking for a slow-paced, pleasant experience. It's definitely slow, and in its current state, this game is exactly the opposite of pleasant. Yes, the bugs mentioned in the review are real and frequent (essential tools not working until you quit to menu and return, for example), but also, the pop-in is egregious. I swore that I was standing where I pitched my tent, for example, then it jump-scared me something fierce by flicking into view. And the glacial walking speed (why does this game have a stamina bar??) paired with constantly getting stuck on the environment makes exploration an absolute chore.
I so want to enjoy this game, and maybe patches will help. But at launch, it's incredibly frustrating.
As someone who is usually put off by these arena games, I must say that I’m hopelessly addicted to this one. It just feels so good to play. And even without voice chat, I’ve had some excellent moments of teamwork that, like the review says, are pretty easy to come by if you use the emotes. It’s just buckets of fun.
@Scrubicius Haha, I did the same thing! Pretty sure it's the combo of the car in the desert, with the "Mad About Pandas" text. Put those together, boom.
@Nintendo_Pone I read somewhere on Reddit that you technically can time-travel, but that it will break the game somehow. Not sure how reliable that is.
I pre-ordered this one (to get those cute outfitz), and after playing for a couple hours or so, I must say that I'm really enjoying my time with it. After I finished all the available tasks for the day, I did find myself throughout the afternoon thinking, "Yeah, let's play some more Cozy Grove," followed swiftly by the realization that all I could do was pick up sticks and leaves if I did so.
That being said, I honestly appreciate the bite-sized approach, and I'm eager to keep chugging at it each day. My guess is that if the core 20-30 minute daily loop turns you off, you'll also be put off by the frame rate and pop-in. Because I enjoy the loop, those things barely register as issues for me.
Summary: This review made me a bit sad, but I totally get it!

Re: Review: Knockout City - Dodge This Superb Squad-Based Arcade Action At Your Peril
@TryToBeHopeful Yep, all the micro transactions are exclusively cosmetics. Feels very Rocket League, to me.
