@FragRed It sure did. I purchased it thinking that maybe the critics were overly harsh on a nostalgic game...unfortunately the game is a mess. Poor level designs, abysmal story that would be better with no story, sluggish framerate at times, and REALLY bad punching sound effects (they changed them from the NES originals)...it's just a bad return for the series. DD Neon was the right return for the series IMO.
It's a shame because Arc System Works does a great job with their games, but this feels like a misstep. Now if Arc System Works and Konami would even consider doing a Hard Corps Uprising 2 for Switch (or even port the first game for starters), that'd be a perfect fit for Switch.
Good review. I should probably note though that the true ending can actually be acquired by succeeding three times, not nine.
It all depends on certain actions you must do to unravel the mystery. I completed it myself in three successful runs. I also can't stress how essential upgrading the "luck" skill is. I found myself acquiring a ridiculous amount of ammo, health and weapons when upgrading that attribute. Definitely made the game easier.
@AgentAPE I agree. While I haven't played the 3DS version yet since it's not out until next month in North America, I have been playing their iOS version, Aqua Moto Racing 2. While it "feels" like a mobile game, it definitely has the potential to be a proper Wave Race title if Nintendo were to work alongside them. That being said, Nintendo may want to consider having Zordix have a crack at a Wave Race for the Wii U if the 3DS version pans out very well.

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th April (North America)
@Stargazer Interestingly, Aqua Moto Racing and Snow Moto Racing are actually $10 cheaper if you get them physically ($29.99 each).
Re: Response To Descenders On Switch Has Been "Incredible", Says No More Robots
Being a massive fan of the extreme sports genre, and the lack of games in the genre as of late, I'm definitely looking forward to this one.
