Re: Soapbox: Fire Emblem’s Future May Not Be In Turn-Based Combat

Turning Fire Emblem into a sim experience would be an unmitigated disaster. It would marginalize the core fan base and leave only a pool of gamers that already has plenty of social sim titles to choose from. Engage’s shortfall had less to do with its turn-based combat or purported return to series roots than it did with its less-than-engaging plot and characters. Early sales of Engage actually outpaced Three Houses—people simply fell off when they learned its narrative and characters were lackluster.

If you crossed Ogre Battle with Grand Kingdom, I imagine it would turn out something like this.

I have had the CE preordered since September and could not be more excited. Hoping Alain is a defined protagonist with a strong background story and narrative arc. Burned out on the blank slate protagonists that Fire Emblem has been serving up for the past decade.

March 8th cannot arrive soon enough.
