To be fair, game prices have not nearly kept up with inflation. DLC shenanigans notwithstanding, AAA titles probably need to cost >$60.
On topic, anything to hurt the scalpers I’m all about. Everyone getting one through Nintendo’s service is (very near) guaranteed not a scalper. I’m hoping to get the email in May but regardless, I’m happy companies are doing it this way. Not doing a program like this is 2025 is lazy.
@Ogbert fair enough on your first point. The cashiers thing, I was using your own analogy. You mentioned how cashiers don’t set the prices. I agreed and said that is irrelevant though. While I wouldn’t take my frustration on the prices out in the cashier, I would shop elsewhere to find what I wanted if I didn’t like or agree with the prices or I’d go without. And if that cashier lost their job because nobody shopped there, I wouldn’t feel bad about the fact that I, too, did not shop there.
In case it’s still muddy, the analogy is the cashier is the developers, and the store is the publisher.
I’m late to this conversation but I’m not sure I entirely follow your point. A place might have the nicest cashier in the world, but if they charged double the place next door, then I’ll shop next door. If that results in the cashier getting laid off, because I and others like me choose not to shop there, I don’t feel an ounce of responsibility for that. It isn’t my job to keep other people employed.
We can feel bad for the developers getting laid off while still not supporting business practices from the company the developers work for or the producers doing scammy gatcha mechanics in competitive games etc. I’m not even someone that does that; if I like a game, I’ll buy it, regardless of the publisher. But I can respect someone choosing to only pay for practices they agree with, and they shouldn’t feel responsible if developers get laid off due to inept business practices (releasing incomplete games, etc). Nobody should be buying games just to support the developers; just cut them a $70 check if you feel that strongly about it.
I will buy the next monster hunter the day it releases, but don’t blame others for waiting until the “ultimate” version is released, because that’s what Capcom has shown again and again that they will do. Or SMT did with 5 and vengeance.

Re: Sony's Back On Switch With A Delightful New PSP Remaster
Love this. Great games I’ve been unable to play since about a decade ago. Been searching for news of a switch release every couple years just hoping!

@Mario500
The term “beefy” is now offensive to some?
