Damn. I had been nervous with the delays but this locked it down. I was also curious to why in Australia EB had pre order listed at $79 but on the weekend eShop had it a $49. I know sometimes digital are cheaper but this is a big price drop pre launch. Seems they knew what they had done. I was really hoping for a Hobbit Animal Crossing…😔
@Yorumi fair point on the other components like the controller, I do agree, bit greedy but I guess the market will dictate if it was a good or bad call. Just in defence of the LAN adapter tho, it's not Nintendo peddling it, just a third party filling a gap in the market...
@nab1 I guess it may be the way I do things but I do have a gigabit connection and I do not buy physical games, only eshop so the flexibility to not need storage for my entire game library (future proofing on many titles here) to be able to re download a game utilising the most of my internet connection would be ideal. Although my router is AC the port aggregation on my Switch (network switch not the console) is much better at directing traffic than the router.
@Yorumi Would you not agree that adding the port may be less to do with cost than keeping the for factor as it is to incorporate what they already have? Same reason major Computer manufacturers have started to remove such features and offer an adapter? The adapter itself I agree is over priced, to do right by the consumer Nintendo should offer a home brand for significantly less for the sake of customer satisfaction but I do believe the strategy they are employing is a long term better one for consumers....
@kamikazilucas So should the Switch just cost $30 more and everyone who won't want/need Ethernet will have to part with an additional $30? The casual gamer will hardly want Ethernet and absolutely should not have to pay for it, but for those who competitively play games like the upcoming Splatoon now have the ability to chose a better online experience. Basically you dislike the consumers freedom of choice....that's naughty!
The LAN adapter will be interesting. Wii U was not gigabit and was then slower than the 802.11n, but latency was much better with LAN adapter. I really hope it is USB3 with gigabit. I also note in the description on amazon it talks about its usefulness for 4K! Did I miss the release of the 4K Switch? 😝
