It's so weird how just making great games and listening to the fanbase results in success, rather than changing all of their titles into live service games.
Also as for the previously announced 7M sales for RE9, this report is for fiscal year 2026, which ended March 31, 2026. So 6.91M sold as of March 31, they announced 7M in April.
I can agree with what Sony said. For my tastes, the PS4 and Switch basically have me covered for 99% of games I'm interested in. I get third party + exclusives on the PS4, and then the Switch has the Nintendo first party covered. The Switch is also the main portable now as well, mainly to play in bed.

Re: Devil May Cry Anime Helps DMC5 Achieve Record Sales Ahead Of Switch 2 Launch
Technically - it didn't outsell the first year. The numbers reported are for Fiscal year ending March 31 2019. DMC5 released March 8 2019.
So that 2.1M for 2019 only accounts for March 8 - March 31, 2019, the first 3 weeks after release.
For the full year, you'd have to lump in the 2020 numbers too which would mean 3.4M from March 8 2019 - March 31 2020.
All that being said, pretty impressive this has sold 2.7M in 2025/26! Switch release will only help sales.
Can't wait for DMC6
