Re: Nintendo Showcases Some Slick New Hairstyles For Splatoon 3

Andy77mk

@RainbowGazelle wonder if that's because they're still keeping certain elements under wraps - to go back to my last comment; do we know if Callie, Marie, Marina and/or Pearl are coming back for this game, or will we have new characters?

If there are new characters to replace these, it might well be that Nintendo doesn't want to reveal these just yet, and due to that we haven't had any word on a new set of Amiibo. Maybe they'll have a dedicated Direct closer to launch with any details they haven't revealed yet..

Also - does anyone know if Nintendo are planning on releasing Amiibo, seeing as we've had (up to now) 16 Amiibo, including the colour variants from the previous 2 games? To me, it would make sense if we got more, but haven't seen any kind of announcements up until now.

I haven't been paying THAT much attention, but we had Callie + Marie in Splatoon, and Marina + Pearl in Splatoon 2 - are there new characters to replace these in 3?

@RainbowGazelle the pain of being an Amiibo collector, hey...

I've still got a few Smash Amiibo to get, but my task is made harder/more expensive as i'm trying to get an 'in-box, first print' edition of the ones i've missed out on.

Typically, when Nintendo rebranded the Amiibo to the red box version, i've kept on top of the collecting and grabbed all the ones released; it's the old style boxes from the Wii U era that are becoming harder and more expensive to get..

Re: Nintendo Showcases Some Slick New Hairstyles For Splatoon 3

@OorWullie A first person mode would be cool; I think expanding the map rotation to 3 or 4 maps every couple of hours would be a good idea too - from a purely selfish point of view, I mainly stick to turf war, so it would be nice to have more rotation of levels in a single play session...

I've always thought the idea of an offline mode against computer controlled AI would be great in as far as it would prolong the game long after the servers have been turned off - I think it's a shame that games like these aren't future proof because of that - I don't think Nintendo would ever do it as it could lose them NSO subscriptions.

Re: Nintendo Showcases Some Slick New Hairstyles For Splatoon 3

Andy77mk

I guess i'm a hypocrite to complain about the game considering i'll be getting this day one (mainly to fill a void and because I haven't played Splatoon 2 for a long while now), but still hoping this game has enough new features for it to feel like a true sequel instead of an expansion of the previous 2 games which to me is what this game currently feels like...

A new game mode or two (probably a bad idea, but maybe a 'free for all' battle royale style mode featuring more than 8 players on a large map, where each character has a life bar and the aim is to be the last Inkling standing), split screen MP (although to be honest, that might be too busy on a single TV screen), new mechanics (being able to have two different weapons and change them on the fly maybe?) could all possibly work...

Another possible outlandish idea would be to have maps based on other Nintendo franchises, so you could have elements from the Mario universe, LoZ, Animal Crossing etc.
Although to counter my own idea, I guess that could take away from some of Splatoon's own personal identity and lore that it has built up to this point in the franchise - maybe having customisation items from Nintendo franchises could give it a crossover appeal that would potentially draw in new players whilst still retaining Splatoon's own style.

As it stands, simply adding new maps and weapons and a new campaign feels like Nintendo are playing it safe..

Re: Random: A No More Heroes Movie Directed By James Gunn? That's Suda51's Choice

Andy77mk

@Andy77mk I guess it's all academic, as the movie isn't being made - it's simply Suda51's answer to a question, so it's all rhetorical for the time being at least.

Personally - I wouldn't care much for the film based on previous experience with video game movies/television shows, so it would be a harder sell for me, but if (if being the dominant word here) it were to be made, it could well be a decent adaption if the director/actor combo were to be taken on..

Re: Random: A No More Heroes Movie Directed By James Gunn? That's Suda51's Choice

Andy77mk

@Solaine I respectfully agree and disagree with your points...

I think that with the right marketing, a NMH movie could be a fairly decent hit, in the same way that Deadpool was a box office hit for an R rated movie. I mean, attaching James Gunn and Ryan Gosling to the project will get filmgoers attention, regardless of how niche NMH is..

In this day and age, all it takes is a well put together trailer, and social media will give a film all the momentum it needs for it to be successful. Geek culture is definitely ‘in’ now, so a NMH could definitely be a success financially.

I also think that for the main part, video games don't translate well into other media forms - there have been far more flops than hits, and even some of the movies that have been seen to be hits (Sonic The Hedgehog 1 & 2 being a prime example for me), I haven't rated...

Re Ryan Gosling - the counter argument to this could be that he's had a variety of acting roles in his career; I haven't seen it, but he's done comedy already (albeit rom-com) in Crazy, Stupid, Love. He's also proved his worth in Drive, The Nice Guys (which I have seen, and proves that the guy can pull off a comedic character), Blade Runner 2049 et al.

And not to sound like a broken record, but we've also seen fan backlash before when Heath Ledger was cast as The Joker, Robert Pattison was cast as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Ryan Reynolds was cast as Deadpool, and all of the above performances proved that the directors were right in their casting decisions...

Re: Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak amiibo Up For Pre-Order, Older Figures Restocked (UK)

@Toads-Friend Snap. I don't have any use in them - the only time Amiibos offered anything cool to me were the LoZ anniversary Amiibo outsides in BotW (& I used a cheap set of Amiibo cards to get the in game items for that...)

All my Amiibo are sealed (somewhere in the region of 120 at a guess) - the whole aesthetic of the item, including the packaging , make Amiibo worth collecting for me.

Re: Random: A No More Heroes Movie Directed By James Gunn? That's Suda51's Choice

Andy77mk

@Solaine as much as I agree that video games don't really translate well into movies for the main part, and that I wouldn't necessarily want to see NMH adapted into any other medium outside of video games, if it were to happen, Gosling as Travis Touchdown and James Gunn directing it would be a good choice in both instances imo.

Gosling is a good actor, and Gunn knows how to make entertaining, 'stupid' movies, which is what a NMH movie would be...

Re: Random: A No More Heroes Movie Directed By James Gunn? That's Suda51's Choice

Andy77mk

@Dragonite89 were his Tweets in bad taste? Absolutely. Were they reflective of what he truly believes in?? I hope not..

I personally feel it was his attempt at humour (which didn't necessarily come across as funny)

Regardless of that, I don't have an issue with the guy, in the same way I don't have an issue with comedians like Jimmy Carr, Frankie Boyle et al making jokes in bad taste - sometimes you have to be take a step back and realise that jokes are meant as just that - jokes.

Re: Fall Guys Suffers From Server Issues After Free-To-Play Switch Launch

Andy77mk

@WoomyNNYes Cheers! I know Fortnite didn't require a NSO subscription, so I was hoping that this would be the same..

Guess if that's the case, I can hold out on renewing my subscription for another couple of months (although not being able to play Mario Strikers or Nintendo Sports online is making me lean towards renewing sooner than then...)

Re: Random: A No More Heroes Movie Directed By James Gunn? That's Suda51's Choice

Andy77mk

@gloom Ryan Gosling proved his chops in films like The Nice Guys, Drive and Blade Runner 2049 to prove that he's definitely a decent actor.

Lest we forget - Ryan Reynolds prior to Deadpool was mainly known for romantic comedies, and a lot of people were bemoaning the casting choices of Robert Pattison before The Batman and Heath Ledger before The Dark Knight. I guess what i'm trying to say is that sometimes you should place faith in directors casting choices outside of your own personal opinion of said actor/actress..

As much as I don't care too much for the idea of a NMH movie, if it was to happen, the casting of Travis Touchdown could be a LOT worse than Ryan Gosling.

Re: Random: A No More Heroes Movie Directed By James Gunn? That's Suda51's Choice

Andy77mk

Eh...
To me, video games should be left as video games...

The odd exception aside, any attempt at putting a game into a film or a television show usually doesn't come out well. Heck - even the recent Sonic The Hedgehog movies didn't do much for me...

And No More Heroes is such a niche title to the masses outside of those 'who know', that the brand name of No More Heroes holds little weight really..

Re: Sega Is Teasing A New Game, Reveal Happening Soon

Andy77mk

@RareFan That would be fantastic! It shouldn't be so difficult to be able to play older games in 2022 (Nintendo are probably more guilty of this than any other company)

Still have my OG Dreamcast but have a modest collection of Jet Set Radio, Shenmue, Shenmue II, Crazy Taxi and Chu Chu Rocket...

Re: Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak amiibo Up For Pre-Order, Older Figures Restocked (UK)

Andy77mk

Thanks NL! Literally wouldn't of known had it not been for this article...

On the plus side - massively happy that I was able to order the three Monster Hunter Stories 2 Amiibo after they went out of stock; completely forgot about these when they initially went live, and nearly fell into the trap of buying them on eBay...

On the negative side - the Canyne Malzeno Palamute Amiibo from Sunbreak is already out of stock. Boo...

Still - managing to snag five out of six Amiibo isn't a bad haul! Just a shame we didn't get the limited edition version of the game that was released in the US...
