Koei Tecmo Permanently Lowers Digital Price Of Attack On Titan Series On Switch

They actually need to do this with nearly their whole catalogue as most of their games are more expensive than Nintendo first party AAA titles like Mario, Pokemon, Kirby, etc.

Are these games fun? How far into the story do they go?

They play a little like Monster Hunter but with rope slinging. Controls are complicated but when it clicks you fly from gaint neck to giant neck and it feels pretty exhilaratiing.

@Zimon Sounds like exactly what I’d want from an AoT game haha. No shade to the last arc, but not sure how well it’d adapt to a game like this.

physical games sell cheaper then digital games go find a used game and the price will be even cheaper.. it is laughable how many digital games are selling at full price on the eshop will the physical version in stores is much cheaper..

@SpoonySpoons If you're into the show you should like or love the game as it captures the feeling of battling the Titans perfectly. I will say its quite repetitive despite the sheer volume of content but overall i really liked the game and think its one of the better Anime based games out there.

By lowering the price (from $80) it goes back to the standard price ($60) that the game should had launch with. They think this price is a good deal which it really isn't. They knew sales of the games were slumping bad. Eventually these games will be on sale very soon if the price dropped doesn't help. Chances are the license for the IP are close to expiration soon and Koei Tecmo just want some banger sales so they could either renew the license or get as many sales figure as they could going forward.

@johnedwin On the used game market, low print run NIS, KoeiTecmo, LimitedRun, Atlus JRPGs and anime tie-ins, and a handful of select shoot-em-ups can routinely break that rule. If you just want to play the game, digital is almost always the cheaper option.

i will choose 2 games for example on the e-shop octopath traveler is $59 on the shop and in some stores &39 another game sparks of hope in the shop $59 in some stores $ i have seen it for $29 and plenty of more examples to find where physical is the cheaper option. thank goodness i prefer physical..

@SpareCube i have seen xenoblades3 10 bucks cheaper in stores then eshop i seen persona 5 royal 20 dollars cheaper.. bravely default 2.. 20 bucks cheaper in stores...all i am saying it sometimes pays to get physical games at discount prices if you can find them and wait..i prefer physical to digital

@Zimon Does Attack on Titan 2 Final Battle just make the first game completely obsolete since it covers seasons 1-3? Is there any benefit to me getting both games, such as the first game covering the earlier seasons in more detail, or should I stick with the sequel?

@Darthmoogle Yes, Final Battle makes AoT 2 obsolete. Okay here's how it works:
AoT 2 covers season 1-2
AoT 2 Final Battle contains all content from AoT 2 plus season 3.
Basically AoT 2 Final Battle is an Ultimate version for AoT 2.

Tl:dr Stick with the sequel.

@Zimon oh no I understood that. My question was really geared toward AoT 2 + final battle expansion making the first game obsolete. From what I understand the first game was never on Switch but I could get it on PlayStation or Xbox. I wanted to know if it’s still worth getting the first game or if I shouldn’t bother since this also covers season 1

@johnedwin I try to get physical when I can and where it just makes more sense, like if a game is known to be over 10GBs, for example. Or if it’s a title published by a mainstream company where you know you can just wait for Black Friday sales or some other holiday and you can get it cheaper. But there are certain times when the window of opportunity for sales of certain games to drop in price is absurdly tiny you might as well just buy it at full price or at a mediocre sale if you’re collecting, or settle for digital sales if you just want to play the game. What we’re saying here is Attack on Titan, vanilla 2 and Final battle, due to various factors, will not drop in price. (even though Final Battle makes vanilla 2 obsolete, it holds value just because it’s Attack on Titan, and had a small print run) Atelier Ryza 1, another KT published title, was a sleeper hit that was readily available physically for a little bit after release, then turned super extra rare seemingly overnight and was getting resold for over $100 on ebay before KT ordered the reprint. I absolutely bought Ryza 2 day one because of that. The physical and used market is nuanced heavily in that not every game you’re looking at will end up “cheaper if you know where to look or wait long enough”. Sometimes you need to do research and treat these games like a commodities market from right before the game releases, especially the niche games, so you don’t get burned by missing out on a game you want.

SquareEnix run somewhat frequent 50% off sales on older titles. And they’ve learned their lesson over the years, so to speak, when it comes to availability of Final Fantasy-related games, at least. So their physical releases will not likely become expensively rare these days unless it’s a collector’s edition (though the Dragon Quest franchise, on the Enix side of SquareEnix, is a different story). That said, I picked up Bravely II for $25US physical on clearance at Best Buy last year (in-store only, it’s not listed for that price online). That is clearly an exception where the digital price will not come close for a long time, if ever.

Same goes for Ubisoft (Rabbids, Sparks of Hope) as they run deep discounts on many of their titles if you wait long enough, or even within a couple months of release, on both retail and digital. They’re all too happy to pull the sale trigger. They are super mainstream and their games will not end up being so rare that their value exceeds MSRP/RRP.

Xenoblade 3 is Nintendo. $40US is the best you can hope for physically for maybe another year and then it goes out of print. Then it turns rare and will start going up in price. I recommend getting it while you can this year if you haven’t.

P5R is too new (for Switch), we don’t know how long it’ll take for it to join Atlus’ bargain digital sales, though chances are it will happen. SMT III and V have already touched 50% off digitally so it’s just a matter of time. That said, physical copies of Persona and SMT will most definitely hold their value for a while until extra print runs stop being made. That’s when the prices start to go up.

So in the end, if a game is mainstream go ahead and play the waiting game and score. If a game is niche and popular, it might already be too late. If it’s a flop you might get lucky and it’ll be cheap, but more than likely you’ll have to fork out the cash unless you settle for digital.

@johnedwin Most of us were predicting this walled garden BS as soon as the publishers started attempting to sell the digital future. No shipping, stocking, productions costs, etc....SO JUST IMAGINE THE SAVINGS! Such trash.
