Sonic Frontiers Reveals Free DLC Road Map For 2023 - New Story, Playable Characters & More

This is very nice. Being able to sit back on the couch and play handheld has been a joy. For me the gameplay is so good that I forget about the pop-in and crap resolution, lol. Will play it again on PS5 when it drops to $10... or free with PSN.

New Playable characters let’s gooo! Are all four going to be playable? I’m hyped! I really wanted this game to get new content!

Also challenge modes seem to let us replay the boss fights, which is something that needed to be in the game but I will take it in a update, it’s fine.

This all seems vary promising! And how can I say no to free content! (Excluding the third update obviously)

Why are they treating this like it's an online game with constant dlc and updates? This is a single player adventure game so its really weird to have an update schedule like this. This dlc should have been here at launch because I don't really see anyone coming back to this game for each update. Maybe if they released all this as a dlc pack down the line it may make more sense? I don't know I should probably just appreciate we're getting more stuff added to the game.

That Holiday Cheer suit makes Sonic look suspiciously like a Santaman.

Multiple playable characters in Sonic, it's a miracle! I'm curious as to whether they'll play different or if (worst case scenario) they'll end up as glorified reskins of Sonic. But I'd like to think not; I wanna fly around as Tails again, like the Sonic DX days 🥲

Also gosh darn; this was their chance to announce a certain....garden with Chao 🙃
And they have not 🥲 I go on about it too much maybe but I can still dream 😂

My nephew is getting the game for Christmas, maybe I'll get another code for the SOAP shoes for him since he's still underage and my sister probably won't let him sign up for the newsletter.

By the time the 2nd update rolls I should have my copy as well.

I share the sentiment, I hope the new playable characters play differently and aren't just another Sonic skin. I wanna play as Amy as she played in Sonic Adventure.

This is great news for me! Still haven't gotten the game, but if the updates look promising enough I'll bite.

On one hand, I'm really happy that we're getting other playable characters besides Sonic, Classic Sonic, and Sonic OC. This gives me hope that maybe one day we will see another Adventure-style game that has multiple playable characters, each one having their own story elements that tie into the others'. Live in hope... At least that's what I've been telling myself for these past couple decades now...

@ZapNCrap This seems to be what every single game is doing now. It’s stupid. But at least this looks free? I’m going to make a scene if they charge extra for this.

The extra Koco are the biggest mystery to me. I already upgraded everything so all new Koco are useless now. Unless they yield a golden Koco turd?

@PinderSchloss They are probably going to charge extra for the extra characters and story, as it sound like dlc, which I’m fine with as long as it’s not barebones..

Best plot for sonic series

With this DLC, it seems like Sonic Frontiers is shaping up to being one of the best Sonic games of all time.

Hell, I already see Sonic Frontiers as GOTY in my heart, even above games like Elden Ring, Stray, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

@ZapNCrap @PinderSchloss I’d share the criticism if the game was devoid of content (like Strikers Battle League for example) but it’s really not…took me 25 hours to 100% it which is solid going for a 3D platformer. It’s not like it feels like this stuff should have been there in the game day one, it’s nice we’re getting extra content especially for free when they could easily charge extra for it

I’ve been told I can’t buy this until you can play as Amy. So looks like by the time update 3 arrives this game will be £15 in the shops.

@WhiteTrashGuy I agree with the handheld aspect for sure, I ended up buying it on my PS5 but with my Ayn Odin and the PsPlay app I'm able to remote play the game on the Odin. Honestly, it remote plays 1080p 60fps so I was really pumped to play it portable without having to have the same sacrifices.

Hopefully we get more powerful handheld systems in the future so we don't have to remote play or play with graphical sacrifices.

Sonic Frontiers DX on Switch 2 is going to be pretty good in a couple of years. 😄

Yeah, I thought about doing that. I have the PSPlay app on my phone with a Razor Kishi controller. I just hate getting it out, lol. Glad to hear you like the Odin. Was thinking about buying one.

@WhiteTrashGuy I would highly recommend it. Between the awesome emulation capabilities and the ability to remote play/stream makes it a very premium device. My only complaints are that the sticks feel a bit cheap and the buttons are kind of stiff. Other than that it's a great device.

The game is only £30 on Switch and PS5 so by the time the DLC is out, you could probably get it for £15 and wouldn't have to wait for the DLC. Does it really play as bad as people say on the Switch? I could get the PS5 version but I feel like this game is made for handheld. I want it but the pop ins and framerate worry me.

Well atleast they aren't charging £20 for this as a season pass.

Nowadays multiplayer and single player games are getting expansions/season passes, even from Nintendo.

Just started this recently. Apart from all the pop-up tutorial stuff at the very start, it's a lot of fun.

@NinjaNicky You can download the demo on the Switch to try for yourself. I'm not sure if it's available in the West yet but it's on Japanese eShop.

Personally I would get it on PS5. It's not really a game "made for handhelds" IMO as a huge part of what makes it great is the atmosphere (especially in the open worlds) and that comes across much better on the big screen with silky smooth graphics. So for me I went with Xbox Series X for Sonic Frontiers and Switch for Sonic Origins. For me Frontiers is better played on any other console if possible.

Sharing DLC (free or payed) road map/plans is a great practice!!
I still regret buying Mario Tennis on Switch 😢

@NinjaNicky I found it perfectly playable on the Switch. I think there's a demo on the eShop now though, if you want try it for yourself.

@ZapNCrap you never seen a single player game with a roadmap? There have been plenty of those. Xenoblade 2 and 3 had them too

If the free DLC works out, I think SEGA should add in additional skins for Tails, Knux, Amy and Sage.

Case in point: In addition to her Swimsuit from Sonic X, they should also add in her Sonic Boom outfit as well as her Rusty Rose form from Sonic Prime.

@NinjaNicky The frame rate and textures are significantly better on PS5, but the pop-in is present in all versions, unfortunately.

I'm not a fan of this game, ngl. Sonic Colo*u*rs Ultimate is better, imo

@Williamfuchs420 It's fine but I feel like they should include it with the game at launch cause I doubt many people are going to comeback for each update. This isn't an online game so it should just be more of a run and done and should have eveything at launch except maybe 1 or 2 dlc packs not a whole dlc schedule. Don't get me wrong the extra content is welcomed but I don't like the way they are going about it. Like who's gonna be talking about the next sonic frontiers update?
