In case you missed it, CD Projekt Red's award-winning video game The Witcher 3 is receiving a "next-gen" update on December 14th.
As part of this, there'll also be some Witcher Netflix DLC added to the game - even on the Nintendo Switch. In a new live stream, CDPR has now briefly outlined what players can expect. Instead of just handing over the new themed gear and items to players, there'll actually be a 'DLC' quest for all of this.
"We just thought if we're offering all those new armours, swords, items that we just want to make it feel a bit more part of the game, and of course if it's a cool armour, as with other armours in the game there should be some quest or content connected to it. So we tried to make a quest that makes it part of the game."
The team even got the voice actors of Geralt back (Doug Cockle included) to voice and record some lines for this new DLC update.
So, what can you expect from this DLC? It seems there'll be Geralt Season 1 & 2 armour and swords from the Netflix show, an alt skin for Dandelion, and Nilfgaardian armour based on the show's outfits.
"We have a very special treat for all of the fans of the Netflix show! Enjoy alternative looks for Dandelion and Nilfgaardian soldiers, as well as a new quest, inspired by the show, where you'll be able to get diagrams for new equipment for Geralt. What's the quest? Shhh! No spoilers!"
There'll also be new cross-progression options added to allow players to save and play between multiple platforms. Keep in mind, an update in 2020 gave players the ability to save across PC and Switch.
"A feature you know from Cyberpunk 2077 — play the game how you like, wherever you like and carry over your latest save between platforms."

Cool update. So Switch only gets the DLC content? Will the Switch version receive any of the other enhancements?
@grovertheblue
And how do you expect the Switch to run those other new enhancements? Be thankful you even got this game, my guy.
@grovertheblue Might get some of the QoL stuff but i wouldn't expect much else.
@grovertheblue The only thing CDPR has officially confirmed for Switch at this stage is the Netflix DLC.
As @WallyWest said, Switch might get some QoL stuff. This could include the "camera, controls and UI changes" along with some fixes.
I just hope that the "free DLC" is included as part of a software update (akin to how Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, ARMS, and Switch Sports were handled), as opposed to being the kind of DLC that you must download separately via the eShop, effectively locking the content to your NNID (in which case, playing the game on a secondary console will become problematic, and the "free" content cannot be backed up like software updates can).
Oh, how I would love them to add cross save with the Xbox version. I would even buy it again on PC, if that were necessary…
Is there any confirmation that there is cross save between Switch and Consoles now? Or is it still Switch and PC only?
@Kalvort @schweinebrot : If there is cross-save between the Xbox/PlayStation and PC, then in theory, I suppose you could transfer the save from console to PC and then from PC to Switch.
This would of course mean that you would need to own at least three versions of the game, which isn't ideal.
But it's pretty silly that there isn't a more straightforward (and economical) method.
I still need to finish the game. I found myself in endless cycles of finishing side quests and obtaining new ones and never got around to completing the story.
Definitely some of the best side quests in any game, I was always interested in what little story I'd stumble on.
Just got my new PS5, and I'm kinda hooked on it. Though, this is a very good port - I'm tempted to go back and finish the game once this dlc comes out. This is easily one of the best-looking switch games, and it's fun just to roam around and do random quests for hours on end.
@Sisilly_G sadly there is no Cross save between PC and the other consoles.
Is there an Option to NOT be forced into this download?
@schweinebrot Well, there actually is cross progression between nintendo switch and steam (pc)
@GlennW right, but not with the other consoles.
I wish there was as well because I have the game for switch and Xbox X and while switch is my main save file I'd love to play it on my series X when new update hits without starting over. Fingers crossed
Don’t ruin the game with that crap show.
@SteamEngenius I had little interest in the main story , the side quests just keep pulling me, it's incredible, I even got lost in the story LOL.
A few sites like pushsquare stated that crossplay will be supported for all platforms. I hope so, because I'd like to be able to transfer between switch, pc and ps5. Wishful thinking, but that's what the writing said - not sure if it can be taken for face value, but I'm hoping. I would like to jump into this game again either way.
This is amazing news for me as I'm currently playing the game and. Not far from starting the new game+. I'm about halfway through the Blood and Wine dlc
@SteamEngenius Aside from like, 1 or 2 quests total there isn't a single good narrative or quest in the entire poorly written game. You can always tell when someone hasn't played a lot of games when they give praise to TW3.
