We love a good retro themed watch here at Nintendo Life and it looks like Casio G-Shock has come out with one of the most beautiful designs we've ever seen.
Shipping to customers from November 11th, 2022, the G-Shock X Super Mario Brothers DW-5600SMB-4 is based on the seminal platformer Super Mario Bros. for the NES, originally launched back in 1985. Its display features the typical Casio features, including a digital clock, date function, alarms, and other lovely bits and bobs, but the bezel itself displays an adorable pixel art green shell along with the 'Super Mario Bros. Casio' title at the top. As is the case with most Casio watches, this version will feature a backlight, but instead of the usual boring plain light, you'll be treated to a lovely little image of Mario along with the '1Up' logo.
This is housed within a red resin casing that's typical of Mario's clothing colour in the original game, and the wrist strap contains multiple images of Mario himself. The watch will come in a tin casing along with an outer display box designed to pay homage to the game. You can expect all the usual G-Shock features with this one, too, including water resistance, a 2-year battery life, and - obviously - shock resistance.
The G-Shock X Super Mario Brothers DW-5600SMB-4 is available for pre-order now at a price of $150 / £129. Customers in the UK can currently opt for notifications on the watch's availability.
What do you think of this collaboration between Casio and the Super Mario Brothers franchise? Think it looks nice? Ugly? Are you indifferent? Let us know!

I'm a big fan of the colour palette used myself, but other than that?
I think there was a typo and they meant $15/£12.
Why are there so many Nintendo watches?
It’s hilarious that these companies produce a digital watch akin to the $20 ones I had back in the 80’s and 90’s and they slap a $150 price tag on it? I still have my Timex Indiglo and my Casio calculator watch if I want to wear something retro…I’ll just stick with those….
@Henchdog
Looks like a $5 AliExpress watch. Have the same functions too.
Question : What do you think of this collaboration between Casio and the Super Mario Brothers franchise? Think it looks nice? Ugly? Are you indifferent?
Me : I prefer the watch from Yokai Watch.
Looks more fashionable.
Would’ve loved this 25 years ago
It looks like a cheap Happy Meal toy. It wouldn't surprise me if they were assembled in the same sweatshop either.
Shock resistance doesn't stop my reaction to the price & how cheap this looks.
Oh okay!
Nothing to see here folks!
Unless you enjoy looking at trash.
So, slap Mario on it and it hikes the cost up by £120? Pretty sure I only paid about £10 for my original Casio back in the day.
Definitely just jumping on the collector only hype now a days.
These are actually high quality watches and can go from €100 to actually €5000 (for the full metal ones) €150 for a collaboration isn't too much.
The price isn't as high as I had anticipated. Then again, the design isn't as good as I had anticipated either.
Man I remember these kinds of watches from when I was a kid...
But... $150? Not in this day & age of smart watches, especially when you can get one on sale for not much more than the MSRP of this watch.
I collect G-Shocks and the price for this is pretty standard. Most the watches in this style are between £109 & £130 for Limited Edition ones, the quailty is very high, they're not just cheap plastic. I'm all over this, hope I can get one similar to the Pikachu one from a few years back. It's my Birthday on the 10th so this will be my present to myself
Say what you will about the design, but this is fairly in line with GShock's pricing. Keep in mind there is a huge difference in quality between the $20 Casios and the Casio GShocks. These are next to indestructable and are honestly about the best watch someone could buy for around $100.
Wish Casio would bring back the actual game watches like the Golf GG-9. They go for stupid money now on ebay.
I am whelmed by this.
Taken from G Shock UK website for the Mario watch (doesn't fill me with hope...) Read to the end.. :
'Presenting the limited edition collab between G-SHOCK and SUPER MARIO BROS. Details on the strap, case and bezel all highlight the iconic Sega brand characters in full techni-colour!'
You can almost buy a smart watch at that price. Are they insane?
I mean, it's neat. Not $150 neat, but it's neat. If it helps you to make sense of how stupid that price is, I have the same watch in all black and it cost me $12 on Amazon.
I’m surprised they didn’t add white spots to the red area to make it look like a mushroom
Stunning ! Take my money 💰
For $150 you should be able to actually play SMB on it.
@Olliemar28 I’ve been slowly collecting Casio watches. And now you post this?!
I thought I saw someone post something about this somewhere but I thought it was old.
Thanks for sharing!
seriously s missprint in the price as you could get half decent watch for that
@ChromaticDracula Can't beat a good Casio watch, right? I've always found them to be incredibly smart and reliable!
It's a red watch...
So where do I shove my money at?
£100 cheaper and I'd consider it!
The design is cool. I sure would have loved wearing one of those in the 90s.
£8.99 for something like this in the Argos Autumn/Winter 1990 catalogue.
Comes to about £25 in today's money.

Only available in the UK & US ?
I want it!! But, $60 is about the max I'd pay for this. And even then, I'd feel guilty.
Also, just a personal preference but I'm not digging the arm band. From far away it looks like camo.
Planes trains & automobiles when john candy tries to sell his Casio watch to get a motel room lol im gonna have to say goodnight sir lol
The people saying it's just some cheap chinese or happy meal watch are just...willfully ignorant lol. The base model of this watch is like $80 or so (retail, often goes for cheaper), which granted it's a lot more but maybe licensing fees contribute to it being expensive. Smartwatches aren't even comparable, it's for a different mindset entirely, like if you want a watch you don't have to ever think about vs one you have to recharge constantly and that brings the annoyances of your phone to your wrist. Also G-shocks are known to survive much rougher environments and they will hold up for years and years.
That being said I'm not sure why they didn't base it on the far superior GWM5610 model that has updated features, solar charging, and atomic timekeeping. They did for the Mother watch (which I got and probably shouldn't have cause it's barely any different but it's still a very good watch).
I'd get it if it had solar but it'll be a pass from me.
@Miyako all this. I hate that nearly all of their collab/special edition watches skip out on the atomic time and solar. The NASA collab did but that's an outlier. But then models like the GW2310FB-1 have both those features and also costs $150. They've got some cool limited watches but I hate having to choose between form and function. smh
@Henchdog maybe for a standard Casio but not for G-Shock. Built to be the only watch you'll ever need, pretty unbreakable.
@bippity_bop agreed. Tough Solar is the only way to go.
Good luck to whomever gets one
If I want a mario watch I'll just set a custom mario face on my smart watch lol
Is this the same Casio that makes the calculators?
@Luigi05 Yep, same one. They make pianos too.
They could have picked a better base model for this watch tbh but G-shocks are pretty great watches. The module in this one is pretty low on features for the price though. For only ~$70-80 more at Amazon prices you could get a Rangeman with way more features, or for ~$40 less you could get a GWM-5610 with solar charging and automatic time setting via the atomic clock in fort collins (or the european/japanese/chinese locations).
I'm not sure why but they mark up their collaboration watches quite a bit. I'd probably still be willing to pay it if it had more up to date features compared to other G Shocks though.
$150? I swear I had a watch just like this 30 years ago and it was $5
I was all for it until I saw the wristband, but if that’s swappable it’s pretty good
@dkxcalibur not at all. While the latest £800 smart watch will be £100 in 5 years time, crippled by progressive software updates and requiring constant charging, this will be at least double its price on the secondary market, and perhaps a battery change aside, working as it did on the day it was made. It’s consumers that don’t know what they’re doing. £130 is literally nothing in the watch world; G shock don’t appear to be charging much if anything for the branding on top of what they’d charge for the base model. I’ll definitely be getting one
@Silly_G I was gonna comment the same joke lol
@Olliemar28 : Youngster Ben, is that you?
@Goofonzo
Insane, not?
I've read yesterday an Article about People modding that exactly Watch, in Europe it seems to cost 25€.
When i am looking that many calculate 15-25% for the Licence, this Price is really is very high.

The Link, it is in german, but using a Translation Tool of your Choice and watching the Pictures should do the Job.
@Sourcecode
Casio still makes the same old 20 dollar lcd watches you remember. this is something different. 👍
I also wanted to comment that I support the idea of a mario watch, and I've even owned a Mario watch or two back in the olden days, but this is not as cool as I'd have hoped. they could try alot less hard and end up with something better. 👍
@-wc- 🤣 okay keep telling yourself that…😂
@Sourcecode
have you ever held a gshock watch in your hand? it's not the same thing. I've never owned or wanted one so I don't have a horse in this race but I'm happy to inform you of your misunderstanding.
or stay ignorant what do I care? 👍
@Azuris That's an F91W. https://www.casio.com/us/watches/casio/product.F-91W-1/
Base model of this watch is the module from the DW-5600.
https://www.casio.com/us/watches/gshock/product.DW-5600E-1V/
Granted it is still overpriced if you're just going by specs for money but definitely goes for more than $20 retail...
But that being said I don't know why all their collab watches don't have at minimum solar + multi band 6 (or bluetooth, but I prefer the atomic time feature).
@-wc- hahahahahahahaha. I guess I’m gonna stay “ignorant” as you say and let you feel like the more intelligent one on this petty subject. Like the old saying goes “ignorance is bliss” I suppose on this matter.
@Sourcecode
I'm not sure why you are bringing intelligence into it, but being more intelligent has nothing to do with knowing what you are talking about. if being wrong about Casio watches is your idea of bliss, then 👍☺️
@-wc- when you specifically said “ or stay ignorant what do I care? 👍” is when YOU introduced the topic of intelligence to this absolutely ridiculous conversation. The fact that you could not deduce that speaks volumes on this very subject. AND with that good sir (ma’am?) I'm done with this conversation. Good day!
@Sourcecode deduce this, friend: ignorance is a measure of information, not intelligence. I wasn't calling you stupid, which you clearly aren't, I was calling you uninformed. I think I was pretty clear about that!
good day ☺️ thank you for having this ridiculous conversation with me 👍
Sold out really quickly !
