Original Article (Fri 23rd Sep, 2022 02:55 BST): Accessory-maker Hori has revealed it's teaming up with The Pokémon Company to release Pokémon-themed Split Pad Fit.
In case you missed it, these Joy-Con-like controllers are a follow-up to Hori's Switch Split Pad Pro, and are officially releasing here in the west as the Switch Split Pad Compact. They'll be available here in two different colours, but over in Japan there are four - and now even more options to choose from!
Hori is offering two new sets - including a Pikachu and Mimikyu pair, and another featuring Gengar.
The Switch Split Pad Fit/Compact controls have an ergonomic design, full-size analog sticks, buttons & a D-Pad. Unfortunately, they don't include motion controls, HD Rumble, NFC an IR camera or wireless functions.
The colours on offer locally include Light Gray x Yellow and Apricot Red. They're priced at $49.99 USD each according to the official Hori USA website and are expected to arrive in stores within the US next month.
What do you think of these new Pokémon designs? Will you be picking up the Switch Split Pad Compact when it's released locally? Leave a comment below. And to learn more, see our previous post:

If only they had gyroscope. No motion controls is what keeps me away from these controllers.
Funny how they only mention "don't include HD Rumble, NFC an IR camera or wireless functions", but what bugs me the more is gryo control, and they don't say a thing about the controller not having it, like if it was less important.
I don't care about rumble or amiibos, but god forbids I have to aim in BOTW with a common joystick instead of motion, again.
@Olmectron Oops, just to clarify motion controls aren't included, as mentioned on the official website: https://stores.horiusa.com/split-pad-compact-light-gray-yellow-for-nintendo-switch/
No Eevee? then I'm not interested. I'm sick of Pikachu always getting the spotlight. If that rat was real I'd stomp on him with my size 12 boot turning him into Pikachu Sushi.
Eevee needs to be in the spotlight more considering its popularity.
If you just want the dpad, just buy the $10 skull & co switch dpad, they're seriously great, I'm having a blast playing 2D games on my switch with them 😃
Man, nintendo is losing BIG money not making joycon with dpad.
I like the look of the Gengar one, and the lack of rumble, gyro, NFC, or IR camera doesn't particularly bother me as many games don't need them. The ones that do, I can use my regular Joy-Cons.
Any word on a UK release for these? I'm tempted to order them from Play-Asia.

Why would anyone use these over the standard Split Pads? These seem like they’d be less comfortable.
I don't really have much need of them, have a Split Pad Pro and two and a half sets of Joycons (have an extra right one) with no one to really play with anyway, but that Pikachu and Mimikyu one is fairly tempting.
I would probably buy them but after using the Bin Bok joy cons, I can't even go back to any of my original Split Pad Pro's. The Bin Boks have standard rumble and gyro controls, which these and split pads do not.
I spotted the Pikachu and Mimikyu one on Play Asia last night, but not the Gengar one. They’re both quite nice-looking, but the Gengar one even more so.
If these were proper fully-featured Joy-Con, I would absolutely leap at these, but as they are, it’s a hard pass. Rumble often makes such a tangible difference in games, especially as I have been mostly playing classic DOOM over the last couple of months, so much so that playing it on PC again without the tactility of rumble feels like a downgrade! (though both platforms have their pros and cons)
Plus, I overwhelmingly prefer tabletop mode when out and about (and the slightly larger screen of the OLED model makes a big difference), which is another deal-breaker.
I'm 100% going to get some of these. Having big hands I struggle using the joy-con for log sessions handheld. I'm also not fussed with no group, rumble etc. Always turn of rumble and only use gyro with my pro controller.
GENGAR!? ON A CONTROLLER!? SOLD! Also nice to see mimkyu. And is that a case to go along with them? Double sold!
This product is of great interest for me. Their Split Pad Pro has a great left stick, control pad, shoulder buttons and A B X Y buttons but is a little big and the right stick feels a little off. Their D-Pad Controller left joy-con has an excellent stick but the control pad makes my thumb sore and I go back to the official Nintendo buttoned left joy-con. I'm hoping this Split Pad Fit is perfect for me.
Hori have just released Split Pad Pro Attachment Set where you buy the big controllers and a middle bit that makes the Split Pad Pro into a wired controller with a headphone/microphone port. (I haven't seen the middle bit sold separately yet.) Watch out for the Split Pad Fit get sold with this middle bit in the future maybe.
I like the Hori D-Pad Controller because it's only the left joy-con and I can still use gyro aim. If I miss rumble I go back to the joy cons. (I haven't tried the Satisfye Switch grip yet but that looks like a great option too.)
Hori make my Switch interesting and different and I love that.
Please pardon the long post.
@Olmectron Yeah exactly. should be a common addition by now on all switch 3rd party controllers. especially by a company like Hori.
@RubyCarbuncle Loving the passion you've got! Preach it!
@Olmectron Have you heard about the Binbok ones? They are big (but come in two sizes as well), come in a few colour variants, bigger joysticks, wireless, d-pad, motion controls, some rgb lights... No NFC, IR camera, or HD rumble, but they are the ones I use. Having no HD rumble is often annoying in games that use subtle rumble often though, so I mostly turn it off entirely then.
Quite reasonably priced as well, of course depending on what you call reasonable.
Huh, and here I pre-ordered the things on Play-Asia, nevermind.
@RubyCarbuncle eevee is another one that it is extremely overrated and appears every where. The charmander line, the mews and gengar are other examples.
It is always about gen 1, and the same ones inside gen 1.
Not that Hori is wrong, they need to print their stuff with what will make them more money, but those I said are so repetitive that its gotten boring already. 20 years ago, eevee, pikachu, charmander, etc were already boring clichés.
@NeonPizza Yeah I always thought of gyro as being awkward, never liked having to move my console/controller around to aim, always preferred just using the right stick for aim. I also just always hated the way it's like you gotta keep your arms and body completely still or you're aiming and it throws everything off.
HD rumble though, now there's something that I actually use and value. That, and the type of games that I would desire a d-pad for aren't the type of games that I would need a gyro and camera for anyways.
So yeah, all they needed to do was add a rumble capability to get me to buy one of these, but I guess they are too cheap to do that even.
I like my split pads and like my chinese joycons off Amazon even more since they're similarly sized to split pads but are wireless with rumble and gyro .. $60 for these controllers with less features than their wired counterparts...seems a bit steep
@ParadoxFawkes I also got something from china with gyro, rumble and wireless and a glowing light round the joysticks for some reason. Can't buy these hori things when they only do 1/4 of the job.
@Moistnado haha they sound like the same ones, and mine have been holding up pretty great and the gyro works flawlessly, my split pads mostly collect dust now
@abdias I agree with you on the gen one part but I still love Eevee though for its cuteness. I remember using Eevee back when Red and Blue came out and he just grew on me immediately and to this day no other Pokèmon has grown on me like Eevee has.
@Olmectron I appreciate you pointing this out. I was honestly a few days away from buying a set (was going to purchase in store while picking up my mario plus rabbids preorder.
Now I will still be looking for some but it would have to be at a lower price point.
