Splatoon 3 continues its dominance in the UK market (physically, at least) thanks to the latest charts data. The multiplayer sequel comes in at number one again, but right on its heels is none other than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Originally released back in April 2017 - over five years ago now - Nintendo's kart racer has enjoyed consistent success over the years, becoming the highest selling Nintendo Switch game by quite a margin. Nintendo has clearly recognised the long-term potential in its baby (park) and has commited to releasing six waves of new courses through to the end of 2023.
Elsewhere, the new entry in the top ten this week is Annapurna Interactive's Stray, which comes in at number three. The adventure game - starring a cat, no less - has made significant waves over in the PlayStation community since its digital release earlier this year.
Otherwise, there's little change to the norm, though we ought to give a shout out to Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which has once again entered the top ten, climbing eight places from its previous position. In terms of sales split, the Switch version accounted for almost half of its total sales at 49%.
Here's your look at the top ten for this week:
Last Week | This Week | Game |
---|---|---|
1 | 1 | Splatoon 3 |
3 | 2 | Mario Kart 8 Deluxe |
- | 3 | Stray |
4 | 4 | Nintendo Switch Sports |
9 | 5 | Grand Theft Auto V |
5 | 6 | Minecraft |
7 | 7 | Animal Crossing: New Horizons |
2 | 8 | Horizon Forbidden West |
8 | 9 | Pokémon Legends: Arceus |
18 | 10 | Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga |

Played a lot of Splatoon 3 and all of it is in turf wars. Will eventually sink my teeth into the other modes, especially that card game, but I’m in no rush. Go team fun.
MK8 is fun but it’s mostly played to connect with family and friends that are overseas. It’s like everyone owns that game.
Mario Kart 9 needs a "Create a Track" and Create a Kart" to top Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
It's a shame that next week's charts will be the return of the usual FIFA taking over followed by CoD a few weeks later. It's been very refreshing seeing the combo of Splatoon 3, MK8 Deluxe and Switch Sports very high up in the charts recently.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed Nintendo will release an updated version of the game with all the DLC tracks at some point (obviously that’s a while off yet). I like the game so much I’d like to own a physical copy (rather than just the digital one I currently have) but I’d like to have all the new tracks included with it.
It's an impressive thing to do in the UK. Nintendo grabs the top slot now and again but it is normally short lived.
@Grumblevolcano It depends on how well those games sell physically. Yes, I think they will enter the charts and stay there for a few weeks at least, but long-term, titles like FIFA and Call of Duty might see more success on digital platforms.
@Grumblevolcano
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in the top 10 is hardly refreshing. Been there for 5 years!
@NintendoEternity
Yup.
Something that Trackmania and Modnation Racers already did.
@Olliemar28 I saw that Sony's replaced the Horizon Forbidden West bundle with a FIFA 23 bundle (much like HFW it's a digital copy of the game) so that'll keep FIFA 23 in the charts for as long as that bundle is available.
@KindofaBigDeal It has been in the top 10 for a long time but it's only recently that it returned to the top 3 for example.
In non-Nintendo related news……I can’t believe GTA 5 is still on this list! Isn’t it 8 years old at this point?
@NintendoEternity That game already exist, it's called Mario Kart Live.
Congratulations Splatoon 3. Had great fun in the Splatfest at the weekend. I wonder if the new DLC and advertising has caused the increase in MK8 sales.
As a Nintendo fan during the Wii U era, the boot of jokes here in the UK with my Xbox One friends this is a golden era for Nintendo fans.
@Anti-Matter But for most people the 48 extra tracks are of great value.
Splatoon 3 has been a lot of fun for me. Turf Wars and Salmon Run have been my modes, but I have tried the puzzle game and it’s was enjoyable too.
I’ve been going back to Mario Kart 8 too. These tracks have been enjoyable, even for a couple of hours at a time.
@Quarth comment deleted, let me guess - snarky comment followed by Id rather play a racing game intended for 3 yr olds
These charts are constant reminders that the Switch's successor is not coming out anytime soon; it just wouldn't make any sense for Nintendo at this time.
I wonder if Splatoon 3 will persist as an evergreen title. Most Nintendo multiplayer games tend to last on the charts for a long time.
Nintendo really dropped the ball with Mario Strikers Battle League. If they actually released a full game with proper support and fun modes, they could have seen Splatoon-level sales.
@Axecon It would be nice if Nintendo would drop the price on some of their games. Players choice needs to come back.
It will be interesting to see if the PS5 is still the top selling console this year after this month. I have a feeling the Switch will take 2022 but it's probably been the closest it's been.
Many said, "Splatoon is going to drop next week"...I said positive word of mouth will sustain it... I guess life goes on. Lol 😎
@progx I agree 100%. And "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe + Booster" is a 10/10 game. I have to make myself stop playing and I have been playing Mario Kart 8 since it's 2014 launch day.
Great to see Splatoon 3 #1 for three weeks in a row.
@Kvnc77 The original PS3/Xbox 360 versions came out on September 2013, so it just became 9 years old.
Anyway, no FIFA in the UK chart? Great job.
@Kvnc77 I bought it last week. Have never played it before
@PrinsPaddestoel it’s one of the all time greats! Enjoy!!
@Kvnc77 Thanks!
@Anti-Matter too bad those games failed.
