Last month, D3 publisher announced it would be bringing the school girl ninja hack 'n slash Samurai Maiden to the Nintendo Switch this Winter.
Now, in line with the Tokyo Game Show, it's locked-in a release date. The game will be arriving in Japan (physically and digitally) on 1st December and will follow with a digital-only release in the west on 8th December this year.
The story follows school student Tsumigi Tamaori who is summoned in her sleep to the historic Sengoku period. Here she must team up with new friends and use her amazing sword skills to defeat the undead evil at the Honnoji Temple:
"SAMURAI MAIDEN follows the story of a high school student who falls asleep after a boring day of history lessons, waking alongside historical figure, Nobunaga Oda, known as the first great unifier in Japan. The two find themselves at the burning Honnoji Temple where the underworld has opened. Having trained in the art of sword fighting as a hobby, Tsumugi is suddenly put to the test in actual battle as she is gifted the evil warding blade by the desperate Nobunaga Oda, who steps into the underworld to put an end to the calamity. Even Tsumugi, an admittedly poor history student, recognizes Oda as the hero of the Sengoku period and understands she must rise to this bizarre occasion."
Players can look forward to "slaughtering mobs of undead enemies" with Tsumugi's sword skills - ranging from combo attacks to strong counters. She'll also have some help from some other ninjas and allies along the way.
There'll be unlockable special abilities and a system that allows these combat styles to combine, too:
"In their journey, players will be able to use the "Gokage System," which allows a rapid combination of Tsumugi’s sword style and The Gokage’s powerful ninjutsu. From the samurai’s slashing and piercing attacks—to the ninjas’ wire arm, freezing yin yang jutsu, and various kunai attacks, players will be able to utilize these two types of offense to fight through the hoard of undead enemies."

Well that first trailer certainly took a turn
Senran Samurai Maiden
The graphics looked nice and the gameplay looks like it might be fun; guess we'll wait to see how well it runs in reality and whether the fan service makes sense for the plot or is just a distraction.
One of my directories (groups) on my Switch is for ninja/samurai games so if it's actually good and reasonably priced, I'll add to my collection.
I am thoroughly confused on what I have just watched.
Looks interesting. I hope it runs well on Switch. Won't pay $60 for this but would totally pick it up one day, when cheap.
Looks alright but I have the Senran Kagura games so I'm good for now. I'll pick it up during a Sale.
For some reasons that I can't explain, this game reminds me of Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae.
Looks fine, but I don’t think it has much to so with SK.
Looks really good!
Looks okay actually if a bit too silly. If you know what I mean, lol
Looks cool can't wait for this
The idea of fighting in a sailor fuku is silly but for some reason my brain is saying Makoto Kino could do it so I guess they got a sale.
Edit: rewatched first trailer sold!
awwww so cutie!!!
I want this, but for PS5 instead of Switch. Physical though, not digital. Looks like I'll have to import. Mabey I'll order a copy along with Fatal Frame.
Watching the first trailer, this was an insta-buy until they all started kissing each other. What am I missing here? What's the explanation there?
@Chocobo_Shepherd seriously
Looks like it could be good. Will keep an eye out.
I agree for the most part. But It does depend on the game. For example, I like to play Zombie Army 4 on Switch (30fps) because it has gyro controls! Even though I have the option to play ZA4 on my PS5 and Series X with 4K, 60fps, ect.
I'm a big handheld gamer, so I usually double dip on games for PS5 and Switch. To have the best console version to play on the big screen and have a portable version as well. Plus I'm a big fan of local wireless play, so for Switch I usually double dip on multiple copies of the same game.
Example- Zombie Army 4, Tony Hawk, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, and the list goes on lol.
Atelier Ryza 3, Fatal Frame: Mask of the Luner Eclipse, It Takes Two(2 copies), and Sponge Bob I will buy copies all for Switch. Fatal Frame & Sponge Bob I'll also get for PS5.
Games like Hogwarts Legacy & Final Fantasy Crisis Core I'll probably only buy for PS5. But Octopath Traveler 2 & Atelier Ryza 3 I'll most likely only get for Switch. So I pick and choose. The decision can be difficult sometimes, for me at least haha.
Now if the babes could come in Physical it's a seller....
Senran Kagura-like with fanservice? Sign me the heck up!
Gross. Just...nah.
@Chocobo_Shepherd thirsty misanthropes.
For a hack n' slash from D3 this looks pretty good animation-wise. Pretty fluid. I'll keep an eye out.
@Chocobo_Shepherd Looking at the second trailer, it looks like oral intimacy is a power-up mechanic of some sort. Which reminds me of the anime "Simoun", wherein female fighter pilots start their aircraft by making out with each other. (No, really.)
Historical setting at its finest.
Ahhh, another character action game. Heck yeah, been needing another one of these. I’ll probably be done with Bayo 3 by the time this comes out, so I’ll gladly pick this up.
@DTfeartheBEARD I feel that, now that I have two young kids it's hard for me to go to my basement and play my ps5 like I used to be able to. The switch is nice to have for the convenience, I bought neo twewy twice for that reason.
I could have sworn that the ps5 had gyro controls on most of the games but I'll be honest I never turn them on anyway. So I could just be flat out wrong there lol I think having both a ps5 and switch is a good combo because most of those local multiplayer indies I'll buy on my switch while the big titles I'll pick up for my playstation.
I'll probably get this during a heavy sale.
Also this has a Nintendo Life 4/10 written all over it
@Chunkboi79 You would think most games would support gyro on PS4/PS5 but unfortunately that's not the case. The list is very small, especially compared to Switch.
I like gaming on my PS5/Series X with 4k, 120fps, VRR, HDR, ect on my OLED tv. But the Switch has spoiled me with portable play. It's nice to be able to play all of the Nintendo exclusives & 3rd party ports without having to be tethered to a TV all the time to do so.
But I agree, Switch and PS5 is a perfect combo right now! I'm fortunate enough to have those along with a Series X.
