Nintendo has a rich history with bowling. After Wii Sports became the definitive bowling experience on game consoles, the motion controls of each subsequent appearance from Bowling seemed perfectly tailored to the sport's signature swing.
If you have become tired of taking to the lanes with Matt time and again (and, we can't lie, that sounds unlikely), PBA Pro Bowling 2023 is here to put a spin on your Nintendo ten-pin tactics.
A far more formal sports game than the Mii-based antics for which the studio is famous, Pro Bowling will see you knocking down pins in a variety of formats from Career Mode to online matches and tournaments. Each of these can be taken on as a legend of the sport with classic bowlers and over 30 contemporary pros heading up the roster.
For a full list of the game's features, check out the list below:
- All new Career Mode allows you to fully experience the life of a professional bowler over a multi-year career.
- Career Mode events now simulate the qualifying, match play, head-to-head, and stepladder formats of real PBA events.
- PBA legend Pete Weber added to the game.
- PBA superstars Kris Prather, Darren Tang and Chris Via added to the game.
- Over 150 bowling balls to choose from and earn - adding 29 of the hottest brand new balls from all of the top manufacturers that are used on the PBA Tour.
- New bowling ball progression system allows you to customise your balls by upgrading ball attributes and bonuses.
- Over 1,500 new lines of commentary from PBA broadcasters Rob Stone and Randy Pedersen.
- Earn Tickets by completing over 160 challenges.
- Gold Pins replaced with improved no in-app purchase design!
While the visuals may take the lanes a little into the uncanny valley, the gameplay looks to be far more advanced than the Wii Sports counterpart — there's going to be no select the second marker from the middle and swing for the hills here.
PBA Pro Bowling 2023 is available on the Switch eShop today for £26.99 — which seems reasonable compared to today's one-game prices down at our local bowling alley. Line 'em up!

I will NEVER tire of bowling in Wii Sports! >:U
Also, if you're already 'over-bowled', why would you want another bowling game? ;P
Nope! I like my games to look like games and not realistic but maybe others will enjoy this.
This looks great, will pick this up later.
Can someone confirm if this game supports motion controls, and if so is it as good or better than bowling in Switch Sports.
I watched a review of last year's PBA and that reviewer thought the motion controls were terrible. Perhaps they'll patch it now that Switch sports is out, but probably not.
motion controls in the previous game weren't great. I prefer Strike! over pba and switch sports. good motion controls, multiple game modes, multiple bowling styles, and an affordable price.
Disappointing,.
Thanks for the feed back. I just don’t see the fun in playing this without motion controls.
