We've got some incredibly sad news coming out of Japan today. Miracle Kidz president Mitsuhiro Yoshida passed away at the end of last month on August 30th.
Yoshida worked at Technōs Japan (known best for the beat 'em up series Double Dragon) - helping create classics like Kunio-kun (Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari / River City Ransom / Street Gangs), Super Dodge Ball, and even Nintendo World Cup.
His current indie studio Miracle Kidz was comprised of former Technōs Japan employees and is also known for working on the Kunio-kun series, now under the ownership of Arc System Works. Here's the brief statement it released via social media:
"Miracle Kidz President, Mitsuhiro Yoshida (吉田晄浩) passed away suddenly on August 30. He was the creator of the “River City Ransom(Downtown Nekketsu)” series."
On behalf of the community here at Nintendo Life, our thoughts go out to Mitsuhiro Yoshida's family and friends.

RIP to a great creator.
Very sad news - River City Ransom was a uniquely fun game back in the NES days and it’s been nice to see Yoshida-san’s creation live on in newer releases for this generation. May he Rest In Peace, knowing he’s touched many lives positively through his work. ❤️
Rest in Peace.
The man changed the beat ‘em up gaming world forever with Kunio games, especially River City Ransom. He leaves a legacy that’s pretty incalculable with the inspiration he created among countless developers of today and just the imagination of gaming storytellers. As an example, I’m pretty sure the Wayforward River City Girls development team can attest to that and their continued successes. RIP to a true visionary.
Sad news indeed. Thoughts go out to his family and friends.
A man who influenced a key part of my childhood with these games. River City Ransom and Double Dragon hold a very special place for me, and as I sit here and type, I recall all my childhood memories of each-- Late night RCR with my cousin... Playing Double Dragon with strangers at an arcade at the long gone Windsor Raceway... Thank you Yoshida-san, thank you so much for your work. Please rest in peace.
Sad news. Rest in peace.
Rest in Peace and thank you for Kunio-kun!
It is a shame he will never BARF again.
I loved Scott Pilgrim Vs The World: The Game, which was inspired by River City Ransom a lot.
When River City Ransome was available on 3DS Virtual Console my best Friend and i bought it and played through the whole Game together. It was a lot of Fun.
Rest in Peace, Mitsuhiro Yoshida
