Update [Thu 29th Sep 2022, 14:10 BST]: The Pokémon Company has just dropped a brand new trailer for Wiglett, yesterday's rather unusual discovery. He's coming to Pokémon Scarlet & Violet this November, and now we know a little bit more about this strange creature.
According to the official Pokémon Scarlet & Violet website, Wiglett is a Garden Eel Pokémon, and he's a pure Water-type. The white eel's page also reconfirms that this Pokémon isn't related to Diglett, but it does share a common mystery — what does its body look like under the sand? And just how long is it?
We... kind of love the little guy?
Original article [Wed 28th Sep, 2022 10:40 BST]: The Pokémon Company has been sharing details on the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet & Violet via a fake webinar this morning, and we've got a look at what looks to be a little Diglett-type guy.
We're not sure what it's meant to be exactly yet, but it definitely looks like Gen I's little mole-like 'mon. Serebii, always quick on the mark, shared the discovery over on Twitter.
We managed to grab a few screenshots of the worm-like Pokémon, which looks to be found at the beach.
During the webinar, the 'researchers' call the new Pokémon 'Wiglett' and that it's a coincidence that it looks like Diglett. However, it's not a Paldean form of Diglett, but instead, it's an entirely new Pokémon.
That's all we know about this new, white creature, but we'll be sure to update this post as we get more details!
You can watch the full VOD over on the World Pokémon Ecological Society website. Once you click on the link, you'll need to enter a name and click the button below (the site is in Japanese) and you will start right at the beginning of the video.

I... Don't know how to respond to this...
My my goodness it’s a worm diglett, I need one of those!
Wiglett, huh? The name really doesn't help...
It looks like the creatures from Poor Unfortunate Souls Little Mermaid.
Idk why but I'm not that excited for this game for some reason. Everything that has been revealed so far has just been lackluster and even the overall look of the characters is cheap looking to me.
Well this is a pleasant surprise for a Wednesday morning! It's not a Diglett but rather a related Pokemon? That's incredibly interesting! Also that name (if that's what it's actually called) is brilliant XD
Oh, it's like the spotted garden eels.
Diglett x Shuckle = this
I’ve never been particularly fond of Diglett, but inexplicably... I’m sooo adding this cutie to my team alongside Smoliv.
Maybe a new evolution of Diglett?
Maybe the inspiration was a lugworm. It is really cute and likeable.
I think it’s a swan or a goose.
Shading itself from the heat.
The internet will most definitely not have a field day with this.
Wugtres? Perhaps even Wugcuatro?
Well, that's certainly gonna hunt my nightmares tonight.
Reminds me of Khezu from MH.
I actually kind of Diglett!
How has it taken this long to make anything even remotely resembling an earthworm Pokémon.
Strong Khezu vibes
Weird Diglett! And I'm sure we'll still never know what it's legs look like.
The internet has ruined this new pokemon for me.
I dont know how to respond. Yes and no.
So… we’ll get Wigtrio?
@gloom Nope this is a new Pokemon, replacing dugtrio. I assume it will only evolve into this on the coastlines though, thats what the narration seemed to have suggested.
Isn't this just some poor fellows burried in sand trying to call out for help using a sock puppet? And we're mercilessly going around throwing balls at them.
Love how newer Pokemon generations are taking more inspiration from nature! First with regional forms being inspired from real life evolution and examples like the Galapagos finches, and now seems like they're taking a shot at mimicry. Kind of like how some animals with no defenses will evolve to look like other more dangerous creatures to keep predators away or to fool their prey. Hope we see some interesting variations of this.
Is this supposed to be one of the "regional fakes"?
The idea of calling a white diglett a wiglett is hilarious to me.
@Joker1234 Oddly enough I haven't been excited for a Pokémon game in a long time until Scarlet and Violet, but so far I haven't been excited with what they've shown of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, despite being a longtime Zelda fan.
@hel105 Oh no, I'm getting flashbacks to a certain Nintendo tweet involving Waluigi and a Wiggler...
@Deezy340 it's first stage Pokémon not Diglett evolution, it was speculation, because it was revealed in Zoom Call style to talk about it like in Zoom Style Conference/Discussion.
@TheDragonDAFan yes!
Ah they've managed to make a 'Bobbit worm' cute somehow. Look it up if you want some nightmare fuel.
I do not like Wiglett. At least it's seemingly getting thrown in the same category as all the off-brand Pikachus rather than being a new Diglett form/evolution.
Literally every new Pokemon they've announced for this Gen has 10/10 design. I love this weird lil guy already. He can't steal my heart from Lechonk though.
So they seem to appear in couples, so are the 2 heads both a separate end of the same pokemon?
Considering what the internet has already done to Diglett, I'm sure Wiglett won't be spared.
Could've yaknow...not put it in the thumbnail. Thx again for spoiling yet ANOTHER new Pokemon for me Nintendo life.
@Pillowpants YES, exactly what I thought as well lmao.
How phallic. It's just... man.
It's clearly a parasite Pokemon! Who's that Pokémon? It's a Tape Worm!
Another Meltan/Ditto situation.
@Travisemo007 It was an official Nintendo announcement...
They're gonna report on it
Soooooo basically what Pichu is to Pikachu?
I want to say something about this, but I think I'll probably keep it hidden from view
Urgh, this... ain't a good design, for similarities to multiple creatures both real and fictional that I'll spare the more innocent commenters from having referenced. Just straight nope.
What do we call the alola forms now?
I need this to look like full body digglet from dorkly. The horror!!
Kinda reminds me of how Luvdisc and Alomomola look really similar but aren’t related. But in my head, Wiglett still feels like a regional form.
convergent evolution in Pokémon
Diglett the mole
Wiglett the eel
@ValZ Right, about as phallic as a cucumber. It's your brain, not the Pokémon.
Eww. Was this inspired by ascaris?
I also just learned that its name is actually Wiglett and not just a meme, which makes it even better.
I do wonder though if this will have a pre-evolution that can evolve into either Diglett or Wiglett, though this would more likely be a Plusle/Minus sort of situation where two Pokémon that seem genetically similar are otherwise separate.
This is probably Arceus tapeworm.
@larryisaman It's most likely based on a garden eel, a type of fish.
But maybe we'll get an actual worm this gen...
@Silly_G It's an entirely new concept. Like regional forms, except with a unique name and Pokedex number. The logic behind it being that the thing it is based is completely different from the original's concept. Mole vs garden eel, instead of the regional Meowth, which are all cats. So kinda like convergent evolution, but in the Pokemon world.
It kinda looks like the unagi creatures from Genshin Impact that you find on the beaches of Watatsumi Island in Inazuma and the just-released desert in Sumeru.
Rule34 will have a field day with that thing.
@FroZtedFlake doesn't mean they can't use another thumbnail out of consideration fir others 😑👎 they can do that and still report on it. Official or not the game isn't out yet. Not everyone wants to spoil the game ruining half the content that would otherwise make it a fun purchase. Something's can't be unseen.
@Switch_Pro Correct. I am definitely weird, but it once again seems like I'm not alone.
Either that, or it looks like a Scworm from Mega Man 2.
It's official! "Meet the Garden Eel Pokémon, Wiglett!" Just posted to youtube by the official Pokemon channel.
It looks like a goose buried neck deep in the sand
