There was a whole lot of new information for us in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer including new monsters, villains and pathways; though one feature that was hardly touched on was the games' newest exploration feature: 'Let's Go!'
In a post published on the official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website, the company shared some details on this new Auto Battle mechanic, which will allow you to send your buddy Pokémon out on tasks while you get on with your own business — as if getting involved in life-threatening battles wasn't the Pokémon pulling their weight enough.
The 'Let's Go!' function sends your Pokémon off in the direction of your choosing where they can collect items and even perform Auto Battles with any wild 'mon that they come across on their travels. So no, it's not a Pokémon GO-style capture interface as seen in Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu and Eevee.
But wait, what are Auto Battles? we hear you ask. Can I just switch it on and take down all the gym leaders with a team of OP Pokémon? Er, no.
Auto Battles are a new mechanic where your strong, independent Pokémon can battle others on their own without the need for your guidance. Of course, you can stand by and watch as your buddy uses its top moveset on its wild opponent, but this feature gives you the chance to go and get on with more exploring in the meantime.
By defeating the opponent in this manner, your Pokémon will be able to earn items and EXP, so it's well worth giving yourself some alone time while your travelling companions ensure that the way ahead is clear.
What do you make of this new function? Send your top Pokémon to the comments to let us know!

This is a pretty cool mechanic, imo.
Reminds me of the Mercenary Missions from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, where you can send out your roster on autonomous missions that complete over time.
I saw the title and thought today was finally the day we got new Let's Go news.
Neat feature, but the name gave me a heart attack.
@RupeeClock That feature was a cool idea but bit of a mixed bag in implementation (I still am haunted by Ursula's New Groove).
Auto Battle ?
Can we configurate their action type while being auto battle ?
My thought if using FF XIII style:
Commando = Attack type
Ravager = Elemental attack
Medic = Healing skills
Sentinel = Defensive skill
Synergist = Supportive ability
Saboteur = Debuff ability
@Axecon
I know right? How can you think of the Merc Missions, and not be reminded of sending Ursula out on ten-minute missions dozens of times over?
@RupeeClock ooof, I hope this isn't similar to merc missions - the whole mandatory idle system was one of the bad "mobile game-y" mechanics that really soured me on XC2 overall (that and the gacha blade pull system).
It looks like let's go doesn't require sifting through menus to implement, and hopefully there's not a hard timer on how long the mons need to be out, so this may not be too similar to XC2...
I really dislike auto features in big games, because I love play big games myself. And it's only cool for F2P mobile and browser games for me. So now I hope they won't advance this auto feature for feature core/main line games and make them even more auto.
That's an....interesting name to call it, that's for sure.
I'm not really sure what to think about it at the moment (simply because there's not really much in Pokemon to compare it to) but it does look interesting at the very least. Also, you wanted Pikmin 4? TOO BAD! Here's Pikmon.
Looks like something I'll try once, promptly forget about, and never use again.
Interesting. A good way to for example level up some Pokémon while you explore the area, look for people to trade or battle other Pokémon or trainers. Awesome.
Will this feature work for boxed Pokémon or just the ones in your party?
Seems interesting, I prefer seeing my Pokémon as living creatures instead of tools for battling. Maybe this will help along with the Pokémon amie/refresh/camping features.
And the character/Pokémon models are the only thing that look great in these games - give them the spotlight as much as you can
Nice GameCube game
Love these kinds of systems so my ‘mons are more than useless stats sitting in a box.
Rip shiny Pokémon lol
I think it’s kind of a weird mechanic but it is a nice thing to reduce “the grind” of it all.
I’m not sure how much I’ll use it. I can’t help but feel like in the real world, folks would steal your Pokémon, mistaking them for wild and up for grabs since they’re on their own.
This scenario is also weird to me even though I’m not even sure it would work this way: I send my Pokémon out to do some auto-battling. I fly to the next town over while they’re out fighting. They somehow get back to me on their own, having traveled across the world map without a pokeball or trainer.
That’s … just weird to me. I guess I’ve just been ignoring the fact that my ‘Mon have been trapped in pokeball hell for years upon years in isolation and/or that they can go into a pokeball in the first place. Oh well… can’t wait for this game 😂
@Cero You must think you're so funny.
I would forego autobattle in exchange for "Skip all Conversations."
This would be awesome if they allowed boxed Mons to do it. I'd send them all out into the world to level up.
Of course, that's probably not going to be a thing.
The only problem is that you have no control about which Pokémon will be battled meaning stats will be spread ramdomly.
Otherwise, nice QoL feature!
@ChromaticDracula in the anime whenever someone tries to catch a Pokémon that belongs to another trainer the ball just bounces off them so it’s probably the same in the games.
More like Let's Go Autobattle Nuzlocke
Probably one of those features I'll never actually use but is nice to have.
Dreaming about the gambit mechanic in FFXII
This does not sound like a good idea. Hopefully I don't have to use it
This game looks worse than I feared...
@Tempestryke @Greatluigi "You can have one Pokémon out and walking with you in the Paldea region’s great outdoors. When you have a Pokémon exploring with you in the field, you can use the “Let’s Go!” feature to send that Pokémon off in the direction you indicate."
So not mandetory, and the Pokémon needs to be in your party.
@sanderev thanks for explaining it to me.
@BrazillianCara I would be worried of what you think, if I were you
Kinda like an in-game PokeWalker, need. But I can already see them KOing a Shiny Pokémon and you just have to watch, unable to stop it.
Ok now THAT is revolutionary! But at the same time, prone to many possibilities.
I didn't like the sound of it at first but its actually kinda brilliant. Fodder pokemon appear all the time. So having your pokemon battle without your input is a great way to just carry on your way without interruption. And it just makes the world of pokemon feel more natural.
I like the addition of new features like this... I'll have to test it during my playthrough to see if it's useful or not.
@sanderev aw man. Thanks though.
Casuals will like it but Shiny hunters will despise it lol
