Stardew Valley is an amazing game that seems to just keep getting better and better, and while Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone appears to still be working on future updates for it, he's also busy with his next project Haunted Chocolatier.
Now, in a new update - Barone has shared what seems to be a new screenshot, just to reassure fans that the project is still happening. It's already managed to get over 50k Likes at the time of writing!
He also provided a bit of a development update on this new project, noting how progress was "pretty good" but also acknowledging how long it takes to make a game:
"progress is pretty good, but it does take a long time to make a game, and I'm making this compeltely from scratch (Except the very rare re-use of something from stardew, if it makes sense). Still just in the middle of the long grind"
He's also reiterated how it's not a sequel to Stardew Valley, but admits it could potentially share some lore:
"It's gonna be its own separate game with a self-contained identity... it's not a "stardew 2". But there might be some shared lore, I haven't nailed down exactly to what degree the two will be connected"
Haunted Chocolatier was originally revealed last October, and promises to go "beyond the ordinary" with the assistance of "magical haunted ghost chocolate". Its gameplay loop will apparently involve gathering ingredients, making chocolate and running a chocolate shop. You can learn more in our original story.
The game is currently confirmed for PC but there's no release date - with Barone also mentioning how he has "every intention" of bringing it to other major platforms as well. If we hear any updates about this upcoming title including a Switch announcement, we'll let you know.

I am so, so excited for this one. I've poured about 100 hours into Stardew Valley, and this one looks like it'll be perfect for me. A potentially darker tone and a little more story-driven would be huge for me.
Stardew is fun, and I love the style, so I'm hoping this game is just as charming.
Cute screenshot and I have recently gotten into Stardew, but 'chocolate shop management' doesn't sound super exciting to me. But somehow it involves ghosts. I'm
very curious to see how the game will eventually turn out.
Oooo I forgot about this! V excited for this one
I haven’t touched stardew in a wile, and I don’t even have ten hours in it, but my god whenever I do go back, I’m hooked,.I can’t wait for this one. And I will wait a decade if I have to.
Oh sick! I just started a new stardew valley playthrough so this is great timing!
So many indie developers stop after their first big hit and go sit on that earned beach - for life. I love that Eric Barone is still hungry.
Pretty much a day 1 purchase on multiple platforms for my entire family.
Props to Eric for his dedication to his game development. If I was him I'd just be swimming around in my mountains of cash like Scrooge McDuck.
I like Stardew Valley, but there is no shortage of farm games, to which I'm deeply invested in like 3-4 others, so this chocolate shop management feels like a more fresh direction. It's got Moonlighter vibes, but the Stardew guy is a way better developer. I loved the concept of Moonlighter, but that game was chock full of item management glitches. When the same item disappeared on me twice, I was done.
I'm waiting for Witchbrook even more.
The man could post a single pixel of the game and say progress for his game is going well and would STILL garner over 70k likes again, it’s incredible
@Darkwario1
Yeah, I was starting to think I was the only grumpy around.
The screenshot doesn't say anything, it's not very nice, seems like a rpgmaker game... what is to like beyond the "progress is going well"?
@DarkCoolEdge
The developer doesn't owe you any updates at all. You go make a better and bigger game with rpgmaker with the same amount of time. Game development is slow, especially when you're the sole developer.
@GG11 I know he doesn't owe us anything and if you read my comment again you should see that I'm criticizing the image and the community reaction to it which I find over the top, not mr. Barone.
I haven't heard of this, it looks nice, though I'm still hoping to buy Stardew in the meantime
Man is one of a kind, but now that he's got loads of money he should hire some programmers to ease his workload. He can afford it. Stardew took like 10 years in the making, one man games take forever
