To the surprise of everyone, a lesser-known Mega Man game has just shadow dropped on the Switch eShop in the US. At the time of writing, it isn't yet available on the eShop in the EU, but we'll be sure to update you if it crops up [Update: it's now live on the UK eShop!].
Mega Man Battle & Fighters is a Switch port of a Neo Geo Pocket Colour compilation, comprising of portable versions of Mega Man: The Power Battle and Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters. The game launched back in 2000 but it was only available for customers in Japan.
The new release on Switch will set you back $7.99 / £7.19 and seems to be a straight-up port of the Japan release. It also looks to have been published by SNK rather than Capcom, which may explain the lack of any marketing surrouding the launch. Here's the run down from the game's official eShop page:
MEGA MAN BATTLE & FIGHTERS features two titles arranged for the NEOGEO Pocket Color: MEGA MAN: THE POWER BATTLE and MEGA MAN 2: THE POWER FIGHTERS.
■ MEGA MAN BATTLE & FIGHTERS is now available via NEOGEO Pocket Color Selection! You can also play as different characters PROTO MAN, BASS, and DUO, each with their own distinct playstyles. Get your buster ready and jump into the world of MEGA MAN!
■ Get straight to the action as you take on boss characters from the MEGA MAN games 1 to 7! Defeat a total of 40 bosses and put a stop to DR. WILY's plans for world domination!
■ Character data can be obtained randomly by defeating enemies! Set out and collect all 36 types to fill up your own personal database!
*This product contains only the Japanese version.
*Trading functions have been disabled.
*The manual included in the game it is from the NEOGEO POCKET Color edition. Therefore, some of the controls may vary on Nintendo Switch.

Would be nice if they include this in the next physical NEOGEO Pocket Collection.
Heck yeah. All we need is the Legends games/Tron Bonne, and we'll have just about every Mega Man game ever available on the Switch!
Switch pretty much has every Mega Man game!
We need that 2nd NEO GEO pocket collection, pronto.
Thanks for the heads up. Snatched that up ASAP! Can’t wait to play the games again!
Considering how the other SNK Neo Geo Switch collections are in the West, the fact that this (at the moment) isn't is very perplexing. Especially when the arcade versions are in the west thanks to Capcom Arcade Stadium 2!
If I didn’t literally just polish off the OGs in Capcom’s arcade Stadium, I 100% would have been down.
This is pretty much a must-have for me. Didn't think I'd get another chance to play these games after I sold my Mega Man Anniversary Collection
Nice. For 8 bucks, you can score both arcade versions with Capcom's stadium thingy, but still, cool release
This was a pretty expensive NGPC cartridge I added to my collection like 7 years ago or something. I didn't really end up liking the gameplay that much though. Hey, nice to see it make a comeback. Would love to see Sonic added to the Switch's NGPC lineup some day too.
I know there's gonna be a Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection 2, but I can't wait for that! This is a neat little curio, and a good adaptation of an arcade classic.
I'm a sucker for true 8-bit vibes, so this is a instant buy for me.
I thought we wouldn't get more of these NEOGEO Pocket Color games (I haven't been following their releases that much and I thought they ended in 2020), but this makes me glad we're getting more and makes me hopeful we eventually get Sonic Pocket Adventure, even if it's like an 8-bit version of Sonic 2 with Sonic 3 music.
Now that I want to play the classic Mega Man series thanks to The Wily Wars on the NSO SEGA Genesis app, this is another one for the collection. I still don't have the original Arcade games on Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium, but those will be eventually bought as well.
PAL release, no?... Yeah, it's probably cool to be gamer in NA... Always got games first, if compare to the PAL and Australian regions... Especially, if talk about Japanese videogames... There is quite a lot of Japanese videogames that released with English translation/localisation only in NA. The same crap still happens today, you know?!
Hm, games supports only Japanese language... That sucks. But, that gives me hope that we will get port of Ganbare Neo Poke-kun. Poke-kun is Neo Geo Pocket (Color) mascot. Game was released only on Color, though. And I don't think that is playable on original NGP.
How many games did the first collection volume have? The number may indicate when the second volume may show up.
Not really a fan of the art style they chose.
Can we get Mega Man arcade archives and maybe the SEGA arcade games, example: Sonic Fighters.😀
You know this is the 35th anniversary for Megaman this year, and this is the 2nd time recently that an obscure Megaman port has been re-released on the Switch with no fanfare.
I have no idea if this is a good or bad sign for the series.
They look okay for Neo Geo games, but I'd much rather get the Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium versions which look a lot nicer.
Wow!! Had no idea this game existed!! I just bought the Mega Man arcade games on Capcom Arcade Stadium 2, so this will be a nice demastered supplement: the 8 bit versions of both! Now it begs to ask, why wasn’t this released Stateside?! I would have loved to own this!
I’d like to also add that I think it’s lazy for a developer not to localize a Japanese game. For me it ruins it if I have to read illegible text.
Almost feels like a new 8-bit Mega Man to me from the screenshots. Thank you NL!
@kkslider5552000 no fanfare because of lack of promotion by the developer. I’m so glad these obscure titles are coming.
All we need is Battle & Chase, the 3 Mega Man Legends games, the two Super Game Boy EXE games, the GB games and Mega Man Soccer to become Switch available in another new compilation!
I want MM&B SFC on Switch please
@Pak-Man don’t forget Powered Up, Maverick Hunter, Command Mission, Network Transmission and the Battle Network DS games
MegaMan is on a roll with these rereleases lately (no pun intended)
If only this came before the Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadia I would had bought it first but now it's kinda pointless. 8-Bit graphics, only single player, no translation, and cost $8 (when Power Battles and Power Fighters both cost about the same sold separately on the Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadia collection) does kinda make it not worth getting.
Didn’t see that coming. Maybe there is a chance for that Sonic Neo Geo game to come out.
@Magrane Reason why this was never released state-side was cause SNK went bankrupt back in 2000, this game was released for the NeoGeo Pocket Color right when their NA branch closed production. When SNK Playmore came to revive the company in 2002, they didn't revive the NeoGeo Pocket Color or its library.
@shonenjump86 Yeap or that Evolution and Ogre Battle games too.
@PokemonDMG All the games on Capcom Arcade Stadia 1 & 2 are basically Capcom's arcade archive.
@NeonPizza Wily Wars is on Nintendo Switch Online SEGA Genesis at least.
Edit: forgetting the I II III IV V Mega Man and 1&2 Mega Man Xtreme GAMES on 3DS for a Switch port
@NeonPizza we already had Megaman & Bass for the GBA in English ... on the WiiU virtual console.... so... at least that's playable
And Wily Wars is playable on the Sega Genesis emulator on the Expansion NSO.
Anyone else come here thinking it was Mega Man and Bass after looking at the banner image?
@Wilforce Yep! But still delighted nonetheless.
Any big differences between these games and the arcade versions besides graphics?
@Serpenterror the Neo Geo Pocket really has some gems on here.
@Wilforce lol, I did too at first.
If it ain't Megaman Legends, I ain't interested.
@AlexanderDaniels it had 10, of those I believe 2 were exclusive to the compilation. The rest are also available individually except maybe the Metal Slug games, those are available as a 2-in-1 download.
-SNK Gals' Fighters
-Samurai Shodown! 2
-King of Fighters R-2
-The Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny
-Fatal Fury: First Contact
-SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium
-Crush Roller (exclusive to the Steam Edition in place of SNK vs. Capcom)
-Metal Slug 1st Mission
-Metal Slug 2nd Mission
-Dark Arms: Beast Buster 1999 (exclusive to the collection)
-Big Tournament Golf (exclusive to the collection)
Funny enough, a second collection has just been announced. For that, we may see the other games that came out after the first collection.
-SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters' Clash
-Big Bang Pro Wrestling
-Biomotor Unitron
-Mega Man Battle & Fighters
-Crush Roller (available on the Vol.1 Steam Edition, pending to release on Switch)
@YoshiF2 is it still in the Wii U VC?
I've never heard of it before. Cool.
@Magrane I think so…. The eshops haven’t closed yet I think, but they are about to.
This is robotic news to my ears, loving the recent rerelease announcements like the BN Legacy Collections and Wily Wars on NSO.
