Funko Pop seems to be one of those polarising brands — you either own enough of them to create your own plastic multiverse of your favourite pop culture characters, or you would be more than happy to melt down the parade of dead-eyed figurines that fill the shelves of your local game shops, if arson wasn't "technically" a "crime".
Either way, Funko Pops have a hold on society right now, and the giganto-headed models are now making their way to the screen, as Funko announced a partnership with Jon Burton's new studio, 10.10 Games, at San Diego Comic-Con.
Burton is best known for being the founder of LEGO developer Traveller's Tales and TT Games, before leaving the company in 2019 amidst accusations of bullying and harassment, and founding 10.10 Games in August 2021.
Interestingly, the Funko x 10.10 Games announcement states that the pairing has come together to create "Triple-A Video Games", a classification normally reserved for the giants of the industry, like EA and Ubisoft. It's not a formal term, though, so it doesn't particularly mean anything these days beyond the assumption that the game will have a large budget and high production values.
There is very little information on the partnership other than it existing, and the games (plural) coming to current and next-gen consoles — which presumably includes the Nintendo Switch.

Oh no, these horrible things are going to be ANIMATED now.
This isn't the first time Funko Pop was used in a video game.
There was the infamously revealed Gears of War Pop mobile game, that was short-lived and not well received.

I’m sorry but I can’t stand funkos, the only ones I can like, are the adventure time ones, other then that, yeah I can’t see this going well. However, how it will play and run game wise? I will wait before passing judgments
The eyes were weird before but now that they blink they're even weirder. Props for staying true to the inspiration design, though
Yeah, another hard pass for me. I never understood the hype of Funko Pops
Eww, Funko pops.
Modern day beanie babies and collectibles for poor folk.
They look like those ugly ice cream popsicles that vendors sell to kids.
I own quite a few Funko pops so seeing them get games will be...
Interesting.
I’m sorry… the guy left TT due to harassment and bullying allegations but now gets as lucrative a deal as this with an unproven studio? Tell me cancel culture doesn’t exist without telling me cancel culture doesn’t exist.
It's already irritating that video game retailers dedicate so much space to these damn things, I don't need to see them in video game form.
@Pillowpants I don’t even understand how they got it to begin with.
At least in game form it wont be more plastic to fill up the oceans...
Gawd I detest those soulless eyes so much.
I like Funko Pops, I LOVE Lego but to say this was the venture they would be (partially) crossing over into would not have been my first choice. Still kind of intrigued as to whether their game will be Funko-themed or something entirely different.
I like Funko Pops but this seems weird. We’ll just have to wait and see how this turns out lol.
Did anyone even watch the teaser trailer thing? It’s so so so bad.
Oh god no...
These things are bad enough as plastic trash...
@PessitheMystic Yes, the trailer didn't say much of anything. I have zero interest in this. People collect the figures because they like the properties they represent: comics, cartoons, movies, etc. I don't know why anyone would play this game unless it was using licenses and not generic Funko Pop characters.
@jorel262 yeah for sure. I can only seeing it being successful if they do some multiverse crap with it. But that sounds like a hell of a lot of legal work for all these licenses.
For real though. These things may not be for everyone but even these have their fans. If people enjoy them, and if the game is gonna be any good, I think we can at least be happy for the fans!
I want Nintendo Pops! of Samus and Toon Link and Toon Zelda and Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong and...
@RupeeClock i thought i imagined that. Didn't know it actually came out tho.
I have one Funko Pop, a Blood Angels Assault Marine from Warhammer 40,000. None of the others I've seen appeal to me.
@nessisonett I've seen him getting involved in trans twitter too. Spoiler - he doesn't like us.
@LillianC14 The Venn diagram of these dudes and transphobia is a circle.
@nessisonett I was honestly trying to figure out if I was misreading/misunderstanding that and that perhaps this guy left the company because of higher ups bullying people but apparently the initial way I read it (that he was the bully) was correct all along.
They'll be shovel ware games already calling it now
Wow even fully animated they still look entirely lifeless.
@nessisonett Didn't know about this, as if the Funko Pops themselves were not off-putting enough, this 100% does it.
I hope the game lets you burn the Pop Dolls.
