Super Bomberman R 2 has been announced for the Switch and will be launching in 2023.
The game will feature an expanded story mode, along with an all new "Castle" battle mode in which you'll need to team up to build castle defences while your opponents work out their best method of attack.
The trailer all boasts an "incredible amount of content" for the game which will apparently "blow your mind", so we'll see how that goes!

Will you be grabbing Super Bomberman R 2 when it launches next year? Let us know!

Pretty pleasant surprise they're doing more with the series given how the free-to-play version seemed to be a total flop.
This looks fricken great. I never bought the original... was planning to, but then they dropped the free to play online version so that kind of did the job... but personally I prefer single player and local multiplayer, so I've been thinking about picking up the original anyway.
That new Castle mode is really cool. As long as this has a decent single player campaign, and local multiplayer, I'll be happy to purchase and looks like I'll have a lot of fun!
A welcome surprise! Creator mode looks sick
Just makes sure pyramid head comes back, please!
This was a welcome surprise and definitely the most unexpected announcement of the Direct Mini for me.
🤨🤨🤨
I have sold the first game then the sequel was appeared??
And how the heck Konami care for this game rather than Dance Dance Revolution on modern consoles?! 😤
At least Konami seems to be taking care of Bomber Man pretty nicely. Can’t say the same for it’s other series though.
Yeap can't wait for it and nice that it now had a creation mode in the game.
This was probably the most unexpected announcement from today's Direct (and that's saying a LOT). I assumed Konami was going to lay Bomberman to rest again after the shuttering of R Online and the seeming lack of desire to do anything with him. But I'll be damned, I was more than proven wrong. That level creator especially looks like it could be really fun. I'm just happy this adorable little dude is getting more games.
That being said, I'd be more than happy if they were to re-release some of Bomberman's older catalogue like the did with Castlevania, if you know what I'm saying.
With Super Bomber Man R Online going offline in a few months, its good to see that its headlining feature, Battle 64 lives on. Also, it looks like they want to do more cool stuff with the story mode, so that’s good to see.
So it looks like Bomberman R Online is being rolled into this sequel. Let's just hope they stay clear of the microtransactions.
It looks considerably better than the first game, with interesting new gimmicks (because the first game is fun but repetitive as hell). But again, it's Konami, so we need to take everything with a big grain of salt
Edit: would be better if the Bombermen had no voice, because that voice acting is cringy as hell
Not sure but I might get this.
I thought Bomberman R was thrown together to cash in on the lack of launch titles for Switch. I never considered it a real game, and it is always found in sales bins. I can't see why anyone would want to make a sequel.
Liked "R" so totally down for this. Good news.
Big fan of the first game's soundtrack. Bought it on Cd. This game has great potential.
It's indeed looking full of content like a stage creator which sounds exciting.
A new Bomberman game? And it looks pretty good?
Who are you and what have you done with Konami?
720p Docked 60fps?
IDK
I bought the original on release day and still haven't unlocked a bunch (1/2) of the stages, let alone characters and other content b/c the currency system in the game is a RIDICULOUS GRIND. (oh and the online was unplayable due to lag)
I paid for the online pack for the game they are closing down...
...and now they want me to buy another game, which I can tell has a LOT of the same content I've paid for in the last two games.
...and truth be told - the WiiWare game remains superior to the 'R' series.
I think I'll wait for a huge discount.
I wish they were less focused on modes like 'Castle' and more focused on getting the core gameplay tight b/c it simply IS NOT as good gameplay wise as it was for all the years from the TG-16 through the WiiWare release on the Wii.
shoukd have been a platformer
YEEEEESSSSS I BECAME A HARDCORE BOMBERMAN FAN AT THE PERFECT TIME
@shonenjump86 I am happy to see Bomberman get another game that looks solid, but it's kinda sad that they are treating a series that Hudson Soft created better then their classic homegrown franchises like Castlevania, Contra, Gradius, Metal Gear, etc.
Big surprise.., how many standard Bomberman games do we have now across alllll systems? How about a new Bomberman adventure/hero game Konami? Or is that just too much to ask...lazy bones.
A sequel to Super Bomberman R ? Yes please, I enjoyed the hell out of the first game. It was a pretty good launch title for the Switch, so I'm down for more Bomberman fun.
This is cool. Admittedly, I'm apparently one of the few that enjoyed Super BomberMan R Online for what it was and bought Super BomberMan R on sale, but couldn't find matches online there so a sequel is nice.
But, I'm kinda ready for a new 3D BomberMan like 64, Hero, Generations or Jetters now with some more verticality to the levels. Alongside a fully fleshed out Story & Online Battle modes with numerous options, cosmetics and customization controls. And with Roois... can't forget the Roois.
Or maybe even better, maybe Konami/Hudson Soft could release a BomberMan Collection compilation like they did with Castlevania or like Capcom has been doing with their IPs.
... Wun can only hope.
I'm a big fan of Bomberman series but never got into the Switch version. The pseudo 3D meant it was harder to judge when you were hiding behind a block. Getting blasted when we thought were safe leaves you frustrated, especially in local co-op matches.
The definitive version is still on the Saturn with it's classic 2D graphics, eggs & bomber dragons for an extra life.
@Caryslan I hear ya on that
It looks like the other. Super Bomberman game adapted to current times would sell very well with an online competition mode, hope this version is good.
I was really hoping for a 90s collection :/
Still better than nothing I guess...
If interested, check out the Japanese direct as there was far more to see on that stream. I’m sure some of the players were wearing masks. I saw either Mimi or Nyami from Pop’n Music and Goemon.
What do you mean there's no Star Wars crossover? It literally has Artoo in the name!
"Incredible amount of content" almost seems like a shuttle jab at some of the games that have been releasing recently.
The only remake or rerelease I want is Bomberman 64.
On one hand, I'm glad this is happening. It's nice to see the Bomberman franchise continue with new releases. (Something only a small number of people here even seem to notice. Come on, guys, at least Konami's treating this better than Ubisoft treated Rayman. Bringing it back for two platformers is not enough for me to believe they truly care about the franchise) But at the same time, I kinda want a new adventure type installment, something like the N64 titles, Generation, Jetters, games with more than just the top-down arcade style approach.
I'm not a big fan of the new "stuff" they've added to the R games like the Bomberman Brothers and how simply incompetent they can be at times, but I'm still very hopeful for this game
